BASEBALL: Raiders advance in District tournament with 9-6 win over Shelbyville
Members of the CHS Red Raider and Shelbyville Central baseball teams came together for a prayer Sunday. The two teams were playing on Saturday, May 8, when home plate umpire Gerald Tidwell collapsed and passed away during the game. Tidwell was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Munn tosses perfect game as Lady Raiders open District tournament with win
Keri Munn was perfect Friday. And the Coffee County offense was nearly perfect, too. Munn tossed a perfect game and the Lady Raiders ripped 15 hits and plated 10 runs to blowout Shelbyville 10-0 in six innings Friday night in Manchester. The win advances Coffee County to the winner’s bracket finals of the District 8-AAA tournament – which will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday night against Lawrence County. It appears that the Coffee County Central Red Raider baseball team is playing its best baseball when it matters the most. Coffee County’s baseball team began its quest for the program’s first district championship in 10 years with a 3-0 shutout win over Columbia Thursday afternoon in Manchester – a game you heard live on Thunder Radio. Coffee Middle School’s golf team was eliminated from the postseason tournament with a loss to Tullahoma Thursday at Lakewood Country Club. CMS lost 9.5 to 2.5 flags (middle school scoring is kept by winning a flag. A flag is awarded by the team that does the best on each 3-hole segment). Coffee County’s defense held Tullahoma without a goal for two halves Wednesday night in Tullahoma. Then the Raiders took advantage in a shootout, outscoring the Wildcats 5-3 to get the win and win the coveted “Coffee Cup” trophy. Andrew Taylor named CHS head boys basketball coach
Andrew Taylor has been named the head boys basketball coach at Coffee County Central High School. “Coach Taylor has significant experience as both assistant and head men’s coach here at CCCHS,” Coffee County principal Paul Parsley said in a press release. “There is a mutual respect between coach Taylor and our student-athhletes, and his competence in coaching the game is recognized in our community and within basketball circles in the surrounding area. The CHS Lady Raider tennis team advanced to the team district finals with a 4-3 win over Marshall County. Coffee County’s tennis Lady Raiders have advanced to the District tennis finals as a team after a 4-3 win over Marshall County in the semi-finals. In singles play, the Lady Raiders got wins from Lauren Perry (8-1), Rylea McNamara (8-1) and Wren Lawson (8-5). The doubles team of Perry and McNamara won 8-2 to give Coffee County the 4-3 edge.
