The Lady Raider basketball season ended on Monday night at the hands of Columbia in the first round of the District 8AAA basketball tournament. The Lady Raiders, playing host to Columbia in the play-in game, got eight 3 pointers on the night but fell by a final score of 52 to 35. Sophomore Dequon Miller could become only the sixth player in Motlow Bucks basketball history to score 1,000 career points when the Bucks host Tennessee Community College Athletic Association (TCCAA) rival Dyersburg State Wednesday night. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Copperweld Arena. The Bucks (19-4, 11-3) split a pair of games over the weekend, beating Roane State 90-88 Friday night in Harriman and dropping a 101-91 decision to Walters State Saturday afternoon in Morristown. The Aaron’s Sales and Lease Student of the week for 6 February 2015 is Allana Rosson. Allana is in fifth grade at East Coffee Elementary School in Coffee County. She is the daughter of proud parents Melissa and Bud. She was nominated for this award because she is helpful to her teachers and classmates and she is also a great student. Allana likes sports and plays basketball for her school’s team. Her Favorite thing to do is play with her four dogs. Allana’s favorite subject is math because she says it’s fun and easy. She plans to be a teacher when she gets older because she likes to teach and help people. This Friday night at Coffee County High School will be the last scheduled home basketball game for this season. Al White Ford-Lincoln has graciously partnered with the school to make it Al White Ford-Lincoln “Student Night”. The Raiders will be playing Tullahoma and Al White has agreed to cover the admission for all Coffee County Raider Academy and Coffee County High School students. The Motlow Bucks played and won their third game in the last four days when they hosted and beat the Bryan College junior varsity squad 118-55 Monday night at Copperweld Arena. The Bucks, ranked No. 20 in the latest national poll, have not lost at home this season, winning all 12 of their contests in Lynchburg. The Coffee County Lady Raiders’ basketball team started slowly on Tuesday night, falling behind 14-3 in the 1st quarter before closing the gap to 14-10 after the 1st. Columbia held the lead throughout the 2nd quarter as they took a 27-21 advantage into the dressing room.
