Westwood Baseball Opens Season with Win on Monday

The Westwood Rockets baseball team opened the 2017 season with a 5 to 0 win over Cornersville on Monday night at Powers Field.   Skylar Bratcher, Wyatt Nugent and Trenton Thompson combined to toss the 7 inning shutout and the Rocket bats kept the pressure on the Cornersville defense all night. CCMS Softball Edges Warren County

The Coffee County Middle School softball ran their record to 3 and 0 on the year with a thrilling 2 to 1 win over Warren County on Monday night.  The Lady Raiders needed a pair of outs in the top of the 5th inning with the tying run on base to grab the win. The Westwood softball team dropped a non-conference contest on the road at Cannon County by a final score of 2 to 1.  The Lady Rockets left the bases loaded in the top of the 5th inning before Cannon County pushed across the winning run in the bottom of the 5th.  The loss levels Westwood’s record at 1 and 1 on the year. Westwood Soccer Falls to Tullahoma on Monday

The Westwood soccer team saw Tullahoma score in the final minutes to hand the Rockets their first loss of the year 2 to 1.  The Wildcats converted on a set piece in the 54th minute to break open the tie match. Tullahoma took a 1 to 0 lead in the first half before Westwood was able to level the score in the 37th minute on an unassisted goal from Kevin Peregrino.  The loss drops the Rockets record to 1 and 1 on the season. Warren County Middle School scored 9 runs in the final 3 innings to pull away for a 13 to 2 defeat of the CCMS baseball team on Monday night at CCMS.  The Red Raiders were held hitless on the game but were able to get base runners on in 5 of the 7 innings thanks to 10 walks and 2 Warren County errors.  Coffee County committed 9 errors on the game in their first loss of the season. CCMS Baseball Blanks White County in Home Opener

A complete game shutout pitching performance by Griffin Meeker lifted the Coffee County Middle School baseball team to a 7 to 0 win over White County on Saturday.  The Red Raiders broke open a 1 to 0 game in the bottom of the 5th inning with a 5 run outburst.  Coffee County banged out 13 hits in the home opening victory. Viktor Arvidsson scored twice, but the Chicago Blackhawks won it late to defeat the Nashville Predators, 5-3, on Saturday night at Bridgestone Arena.
