CHS Tennis Splits with Shelbyville on Tuesday
The Coffee Central High School tennis teams traveled to Shelbyville on Tuesday for a rematch with the Eagles and Eaglettes. Much like Monday’s home match, the 2 squads split the decision. The Red Raiders dropped the Eagles 5 to 2 while the Lady Raiders were swept by the Eaglettes. The Red Raiders got wins in singles play from Grey Riddle(8 to 5), Reid Lawrence(8-6), Shlip Patel(8-2) and Jonah Rollman(8-2). Westwood Soccer Blanks North Franklin
The Westwood soccer team welcomed North Franklin to Dyer-Bouldin Field on Tuesday night for a non-conference friendly with the Gators. The Rockets made the most of their only goal, and a North Franklin own goal grabbing the 2 to 0 win over North. Lucas Workman nailed the only goal for Westwood as he found the back of the net in the 51st minute. Angel Gonzalez got the assist for the Rockets. The Westwood softball team put their perfect conference record on the line on Tuesday at Moore County. The Lady Rockets were held to two hits in the game as the Lady Raiders of Moore County captured the 7 to 0 win. Moore County scored single runs in the 1st and 2nd innings before netting 3 runs in the 3rd inning to seize the advantage. The Coffee County Middle School tennis teams welcomed Warren County to their home courts at the Raider Academy on Tuesday. The Raiders and Lady Raiders each ran their season records to 4 and 0 on the year with straight sweeps of the visiting Pioneers. The Lady Raiders won 9 to 0 while the Red Raiders claimed an 8 to 0 win. In girls’ play, the Lady Raiders won all 6 singles matches and all 3 doubles matches for the match win. The Coffee County Middle School soccer team welcomed White County to their home pitch on Tuesday for a non-conference match-up. After a scoreless first half, Coffee County found the back of the net 4 times in the second half to claim a 4 to 0 win. Aiden Abellana scored a pair of goals, including one off of a penalty kick. The Westwood tennis teams traveled to Tullahoma on Tuesday. The young Rocket teams continued to show improvement on the year taking on a talented Wildcat squad. The Lady Rockets won their match 4 to 3 while the Rockets fell 3 to 4. In girls’ play, Lauren Perry and Callie Roper won their singles matches and Westwood also got the benefit of a forfeit in singles. The Coffee County Middle School and Westwood Middle School golf teams traveled to Fayetteville on Tuesday for a three way matchup with Fayetteville at Pebble Creek. The 3 teams matched up against one another in the new junior PGA scramble scoring format. At the end of the day, Fayetteville came out on top with 4 ½ team flags, followed by Coffee County with 3 ½ team flags and Westwood with 2 ½ team flags. Three heroes from the 1997 World Series championship team threw out the ceremonial first pitches before the Marlins’ home opener on Tuesday night. Miami’s bats took over when the game begun, with Marcell Ozuna clubbing two home runs and driving in six runs in an 8-4 win over the Braves at Marlins Park.
