The Tacoma Rainiers scored a pair of runs in the opening inning and never looked back in a 9-2 win over the Nashville Sounds Wednesday night at Cheney Stadium. Tacoma first baseman Dan Vogelbach drilled an opposite field two-run homer off Nashville starter Frankie Montas in the first inning to start the scoring for the Rainiers. After holding Siegel scoreless for 25 minutes, the Coffee County Middle School Lady Raider soccer team saw the Lady Stars notch 2 goals in the final minutes of the first half.  The Stars carried that momentum into the second half as they banged home 4 goals in the final 30 minute half on their way to a 6 to 0 scrimmage win. Odubel Herrera hit a two-run homer, Zach Eflin pitched seven strong innings following his recall from the minors, and the Philadelphia Phillies beat Atlanta 5-2 on Tuesday night to continue their season-long mastery of the Braves. After Maikel Franco drove in Freddie Galvis with a line-drive single to right field in the fifth inning, Herrera reached down to pull a low pitch from Julio Teheran into the restaurant behind the right-field wall. For the second straight day nine innings were not enough to decide a winner between the Nashville Sounds and Tacoma Rainiers. Tuesday, however, it was the Sounds who came out victorious with a 6-3 win. A three-run top of the 10th inning helped the Sounds escape Tuesday’s matinee in Tacoma 6-3 over the Rainiers. Led by Samuel Prater’s round of 66, the Coffee County golf team captured 2nd place on Monday in the Cookeville Early Bird Tournament.  Battling periods of showers, the Red Raiders fired a team score of 300 to finish 1 stroke off the championship.  The tournament performance gives the Red Raiders a season record of 16 and 2.
