The Coffee County CHS basketball teams opened the season in dominating fashion on Tuesday night with a sweep of Cannon County. The Red Raiders and Lady Raiders each used an aggressive defense to key wins in Woodbury. The Lady Raiders led most of the game in a 53 to 45 win. The Red Raiders never trailed in a 65 to 41 victory. The Coffee County Central High School freshman boys’ basketball team opened their season on Monday night with a dominating win over Grundy County. Leading by as many as 30 points in the 2nd half, the Red Raiders pounded the visiting Yellow Jackets 61 to 42 at the Joe Frank Patch Memorial Gym. Mattias Ekholm and Kevin Fiala each had a goal and an assist to lead the streaking Nashville Predators past the Washington Capitals 6-3 on Tuesday night for their fifth straight victory. The Rockets and Lady Rockets of Westwood traveled to Unionville on Monday night for a conference doubleheader with Community. The Lady Rockets captured a 30 to 22 homecoming win. Tuesday night, Coffee County Central High School basketball returns to the hardwood for the 2017-18 season. The Raiders and Lady Raiders will travel to Woodbury to take on Cannon County in a Hall of Champions doubleheader. Both teams are coming off 21 win seasons last year and both had wins over Cannon County last year in the season opener.
