CHS Baseball Defeats Shelbyville to Open District Tournament

Opening up District 8AAA tournament play at home on Thursday, the Red Raider baseball team welcomed Shelbyville to Powers Field. Coffee County got a masterful pitching performance from Hayden Skipper. Skipper’s arm and some timely hitting lifted the Red Raiders to a 3 to 0 win that you heard right here on Thunder Radio. After struggling to score against Tullahoma on Tuesday night, the Coffee County Lady Raiders erupted for 11 hits and 12 runs in a 5 inning win over Franklin County.  The win gives the Lady Raiders a first round win in the District 8AAA softball tournament.  Coffee County took the win 12 to 1. The focus was renewed, the defensive effort was reinvigorated and the Nashville Predators put on a defensive clinic in a 2-1 victory in Game 4 at Bell MTS Place on Thursday night. Series Finale Suspended Due to Travel Curfew

The series finale between the Nashville Sounds and the Colorado Springs Sky Sox was suspended after eight innings with the Sounds on top 14-6. The game was delayed for nearly two hours due to inclement weather and was suspended after the eighth inning due to a travel curfew. The game will be completed in August when the Sounds return to Colorado Springs. Ending the regular season against the bitter rivals from west Coffee, the Coffee County Red Raider soccer team traveled to Tullahoma to take on the Wildcats.  The 2 old rivals were battling for possession of the Coffee Cup trophy and bragging rights for another year.  The Wildcats got a pair of goals in each half as they dumped the Red Raiders 4 to 1. Sounds Drop Third Straight in Colorado Springs

The Colorado Springs Sky Sox jumped on the Nashville Sounds early and cruised to an 8-1 win at Security Service Field Wednesday afternoon. Sky Sox catcher Jacob Nottingham set the tone when the launched a three-run homer off Sounds’ starter Eric Jokisch in the bottom of the first inning. The blast came right after a fielding error by Franklin Barreto and a free pass issued by Jokisch. The deficit grew to 4-0 in the second when right fielder Nate Orf singled in Keon Broxton.
