CHS Golf Dumps Shelbyville on Monday

Competing on their home course for the first time this year, the CHS golf team welcomed Shelbyville to Willowbrook on Tuesday.  The Raider linksters squared off with their visitors in a 9 hole match.  Coffee County captured the match win with a score of 162 outdistancing Shelbyville by 8 strokes. Sounds Sweep Homestand, Extend Winning Streak to Nine Games

The Nashville Sounds topped the Sacramento River Cats, 4-2, Tuesday night and finished off a perfect 7-0 homestand in front of 8,412 fans at First Tennessee Park. The win extended Nashville’s winnings streak to a season-high nine games. Boog Powell and Steve Lombardozzi started the scoring right away in the first inning for Nashville. Raider Golf Captures 2nd Place in Cookeville Tournament

Competing in their 3rd tournament of the year, the CHS golf team was in Cookeville on Monday for the Early Bird Invitational.  Hosted by Cookeville High, the Early Bird features several top teams from all over the mid-state area.  The Red Raiders outshot Tullahoma in a 2 hole playoff to capture 2nd place in the 15 team tournament.  Cookeville shot 295 to win the tournament beating Coffee County by 7 strokes. Davis Green Signs Baseball Scholarship with Cumberland University

Former Coffee County CHS pitcher Davis Green has signed a letter of intent to attend Cumberland University on a baseball scholarship.  Green, a 2017 graduate of the Red Raider baseball team for coach David Martin, will attend the Lebanon, Tennessee university after a year away from the game of baseball.   Green was a standout pitcher for the Red Raiders in his junior and senior years but did not sign a college scholarship following graduation. CCMS Soccer Falls in Scrimmage Match to Algood

The Coffee County Middle School soccer team welcomed Algood to CCMS on Monday for a preseason scrimmage.  The Lady Raiders, who open the regular season next Monday, were looking to get in some work before Saturday’s scrimmage play day.  Despite a good start and a strong finish, the Lady Raiders fell by a final score of 5 to 0. Sounds Extend Winning Streak to Eight Games Behind Luzardo’s Five Scoreless Innings

The Nashville Sounds got five shutout innings from 20-year-old Jesus Luzardo to help extend their winning streak to eight games with a 6-0 win over the Sacramento River Cats Monday night at First Tennessee Park. In his Triple-A debut, Luzardo scattered eight hits, all singles, and struck out six. He threw 52 of his 76 pitches for strikes. Claybusters Claim 3 Team Titles at Grand Championdships

The Coffee County Claybusters enjoyed their most successful performance ever in the annual AIM Grand Championship which concluded on Tuesday.  Four of the five squads competing placed in the national event held annually in Sparta, IL.  The Claybusters came home with an impressive three 1st place team finishes and a runner-up. The Junior Gold Division(18 to 22 year olds) captured a national title as they bested Dirty Mike & the Boys from Arkansas 970 to 968.  The Junior Gold team was led by Jordan Osborne who had rounds of 99 and 07 to score 196 out of 200 clays. ...
