Motlow Sports Update

Freshman Roxanne Hillman pitched the first no-hitter of her short college career, and the first for the Lady Bucks this season, leading Motlow to an 8-0, 3-0 sweep of visiting Tennessee Wesleyan on Wednesday at the softball complex in Moore County.

Motlow (13-19) was in need of a positive outing following its previous doubleheader, an 11-0, 10-0 sweep at the hands of No. 1 ranked Chattanooga State at the softball complex on Tuesday. The Lady Bucks got what they needed behind Hillman and game two starter Kayla Green.

Hillman (7-7) was just one walk and one hit batter away from a perfect game as she struck out four Tennessee Wesleyan batters on a cool, crisp afternoon in Lynchburg. The visitors only got one runner to second base as Motlow invoked the eight-run rule in the fifth inning with one out.

Green (6-11) scattered five hits in game two as the Lady Bucks captured their first shutout sweep of the season. Green also struck out four batters in her seven innings of work, and despite two Motlow errors, the Lady Bucks were able to shut down every potential Wesleyan rally.

Motlow steps back into TCCAA conference play when it hosts Volunteer State at 2 p.m. Friday at the softball complex in Moore County. The Lady Pioneers are 32-4 on the season and ranked 15th in the nation.
