Motlow Lady Bucks new head basketball coach Aaron Holland has only been on the job for a few weeks, and although he arrived well past the primary time to sign student-athletes for the coming season, he has already added a group of impressive recruits to the 2012-13 roster.
“I am very excited about our incoming class of players,” said Holland. “They possess the skill set and athletic background to help us compete in the TCCAA. Not only are they great ball players, but excellent students as well. We pride ourselves on graduating student athletes here at Motlow.”
Included among the first girls to agree to come to Lynchburg and play for Holland are three players from high schools in the Motlow College eleven-county service area – Shelbyville Central, Franklin County, and Grundy County.
Chelsey Wiseman is a 5-11 forward who started for four years at Grundy County High School in Tracy City; Shomarie ‘Lacy’ Gaines is a 5-11 forward from Franklin County High School in Winchester; and Chernita Smith is a 5-9 guard who played her prep basketball for the Shelbyville Central High School Eaglettes.
Also included in Coach Holland’s first class is Kinashia Russell, a 5-7 wing player who was part of Clarksville High School’s state tournament team; Lynley Crowell, a 5-6 guard from Harding Academy in Searcy, Arkansas; and LaShaundra Rice, a 5-6 guard from Nashville.
In addition to those five newcomers, the Lady Bucks will return four sophomores from last season’s squad – Danielle Ervin and Lekera Taylor from Chattanooga, Calvesha Flowers from Nashville, and Presley Owen from Jonesboro, Arkansas.
Holland has not completed his roster yet and continues to spend much of his time recruiting throughout the southeast.
