A late rally, featuring a pair of home runs, was not enough on Wednesday night for the Coffee County Central High School baseball team to pull off the upset of district leading Lawrence County as the Red Raiders fell 6 to 4. The Raiders fell behind in the 1st inning as the home standing Wildcats roughed up Coffee County starter Wyatt Day for 3 walks, 3 errors and 2 hits putting the Raiders in a 5 to 0 hole. Lawrence County added an insurance run in the 4th before the Raiders could answer on the scoreboard. After loading the bases in the 4th and not scoring, Coffee County got a run in the 5th on a leadoff solo home run from Gavin Husted. Zach Wise added a 2 run homer in the 6th inning to further trim the lead and set up an exciting 7th inning. In the 7th, Jacob Langham drew a walk and scored on Noah Anderson’s double. A single up the middle by Deandre Wakefield put the tying runs on base before Lawrence County ended the rally to claim a season sweep over Coffee County. The loss drops the Raiders district record to 2 and 4 and their season record to 4 and 5. The Raiders will be back in action on Friday when they open play in the Warrior Classic with a pair of games at Shelbyville. At 4 PM the Red Raiders take on Henry County followed by Loretto at 6:30 PM. On Saturday, Coffee County will take on Middle Tennessee Christian at 10 AM and Clarksville at 12:30 in a pair of games to be played at Oakland High School.
