Anytime Manchester and Tullahoma battle in any sport, at any level, you expect a battle to the bitter end. Tuesday night’s the Red Raiders of Coffee Middle School added another nail-biting battle on the basketball floor at East Tullahoma. Leading 11 to 9 at the half, the Raiders had to turn back a furious 4th quarter rally to stop the Panthers by a final score of 19 to 18. Andrew Mahaffey led Coffee Middle in scoring with 7 points and Harley Hinshaw added 4 points. Chay Chumley and Weston Hargrove each finished with 3 points as the Raiders improved to 5 and 3 on the year and 3 and 2 in conference play.
The girls had a much easier time as they tamed the Lady Panthers 54 to 7. The Lady Raider defense was again spectacular as they held East to 2 baskets from the floor for the game. Offensively, 10 Lady Raiders tallied points led by Abby Morgan with 12 points. Alisha Jennings had 9 points for the Lady Raiders while Jacey Vaughn netted 8 points. Julia Duncan and Bella Vinson dropped in 7 points apiece. With the win, the Lady Raiders improved to 8 and 0 on the year and 5 and 0 in conference play.
Coffee Middle will welcome West Tullahoma to town on Thursday night. The girl’s game will tip off at 6.
