The Westwood Lady Eagles celebrate their 2015 CCYBL championship on Saturday
A near capacity crowd packed the Joe Frank Patch Memorial Gymnasium on Saturday for the final day of the Coffee County Youth Basketball League. The day began with a pair of consolation games as the boys and girls divisions sought to crown a 3rd place finisher. In girls play, the Lady Chargers of North Coffee stretched a 10 to 4 halftime lead into a 24 to 13 win. North Coffee was led in scoring by Lucy Riddle who notched 6 points while Samantha Brown scored 5 points. New Union was led offensively by Haley Horton who scored 5 points. Callie Garrett added 4 points for the Lady Rebels.

In the boys consolation, Deerfield had a huge 4th quarter comeback to stop New Union 29 to 26. The Bucks’ Kohlton Strange scored five 4th quarter points to lead all scorers with 14 points on the game. Aiden Abellana added 11 points for Deerfield. New Union was paced by Dayne Crosslin who netted 9 points while Paul Zuzich and Body Todd each finished with 6 points.
In the girls championship game, the top seeded Lady Eagles raced out to an 10 point 1st quarter lead on their way to a 25 to 12 win over Hillsboro. Elli Chumley and Kasen Holt each scored 9 points for Westwood in the winning effort. Hillsboro’s Marley Perry scored 5 points for the Lady Tigers.
In the boys championship, College Street gained their 2nd consecutive title as they dropped Westwood by a final score of 48 to 10. Joseph Duncan was high scorer for the Cougars with 12 points while Conner Shemwell added 9 points. Westwood was led in scoring by Kevin Peregrino and Keiton Sherrill who each had 4 points.

In the always popular cheer competition, the College Street Cougar cheerleaders continued their recent cheer division domination as they won a very competitive and impressive cheer competition. The Tiger cheerleaders of Hillsboro finished in 2nd place while the Buck cheerleaders on Deerfield finished in 3rd place.
