Showing the impact of a 3 week layoff, the Lady Raiders of Coffee Middle got off to a slow start before controlling the final 9 minutes to claw out a 27 to 14 win over White County on Monday night at Coffee County Middle School. The Lady Raiders grabbed a 6 to 0 1st quarter lead on 3 pointers by Jacey Vaughn and Julia Duncan. White County scrambled back to tie it going into the 2nd quarter. Coffee County took a 15 to 12 lead into the half, before White County tied the game with 3:21 left in the 3rd quarter at 11. From there, Coffee County found their shooting touch as they outscored the visitors 16 to 3 in the final 9 minutes. Coffee County was led in scoring by Julia Duncan who had 13 points. Jacey Vaughn finished with 6 points while Abby Morgan and Alisha Jennings each finished with 4 points.
In the boys game, White County raced out to a 17 to 0 lead before Andrew Mahaffey drained a 3 pointer with 4:03 left in the first half to put Coffee County on the board. The visiting Warriors controlled the offensive and defensive boards to build a 26 to 5 halftime lead before winning by a final score of 42 to 14. Andrew Mahaffey scored 12 of the Raiders 14 points and Josh Perry added the other 2. The Raiders will travel to Warren County on Monday night to take the Pioneers. The girls game will tip off at 6 PM.
