Coffee County Middle School Soccer Defeats Westwood on Monday Night

In the battle of backyard rivals, the Coffee County Middle School and Westwood Middle School soccer teams met at the Raider Academy on Monday night.  In a match you heard here on Thunder Radio, Coffee Middle used 4 first half goals to roll to a 7 to 1 win over the young Lady Rockets.

Coffee Middle got on the board in the 3rd minute on a goal from Katie Cotton.  A loose ball in front of the Westwood goal inadvertently landed in the back of the net to give the Lady Raiders a 2 nil lead due to the own goal.  Coffee Middle’s Emma Rhoton added a goal off an assist from Brittney Spencer in the 23rd minute and Spencer added an unassisted goal in the 26th minute to make the score 4 nil at the half.

In the second half, Cotton added her second goal off an assist from Lillie Meeks.  Hannah Creal added the Lady Raiders 6th goal in the 45th minute before Ellie Fann notched Coffee County’s 6th goal in the 52nd minute.  Cotton assisted on each of the last 2 goals.  Westwood’s Princess Penaloza scored for Westwood in the 53rd minute off an assist from Adriana Basurto to avoid the shutout.  Keeper Sydney Gilley finished with 1 save for Coffee County while Holland Willoughby of Westwood finished with 8 saves.

Monday’s match was the final regular season game for each team.  Westwood soccer begins play in the CTSC conference tournament later this week.  Coffee Middle will be in the CTS JV tournament on Saturday and begin play in the CTC tournament next week.
