Coffee County Lady Raiders Fall in Friday Slugfest in Tampa Tournament

Friday afternoon saw the Lady Raider basketball team tangle with Eagle’s Landing out of McDonough, Georgia in the Tampa Bay Christmas Tournament. Missed free throws and turnovers spoiled a 2nd half comeback as Coffee County dropped their second straight game 71 to 61. The loss in the physical game drops the Lady Raiders record to 15 and 2 on the year.
Coffee County fell behind in the 1st quarter due to turnovers but roared back to take a 17 to 15 lead at the end of the period on a 3 point basket at the buzzer by Abby Morgan from nearly 30 feet away. The Lady Eagles defense stifled Coffee County in the 2nd quarter and built a 12 point lead in the 3rd period. Coffee County was able to trim the margin to 4 points near the 6 minute mark but could get no closer.
In a game that saw 81 free throws, Coffee County missed 15 of their 40 shots at the line in the game, including going 17 of 31 in the second half. Bella Vinson Led Coffee County in scoring with 29 points, including 22 in the second half. Morgan finished with 16 points hitting 3 triples in the game. Jenna Garretson battled foul trouble in the second half before fouling out with 6 points. Jacey Vaughn notched 5 points for the Lady Raiders.
Coffee County concludes tournament play on Saturday morning at 9 AM when they take on Spruce Creek out of Port Orange, Florida
