A Victor Ramirez shot in the 90th minute sailed just high and allowed LaVergne to capture a 1 to 0 win over the Coffee County CHS soccer team on Tuesday night at the Raider Soccer Field. LaVergne got a goal in the 20th minute as both teams battled for possession and momentum throughout the first half. In the second half, the Wolverines turned up the pressure and physical play and held the Raiders to a handful of scoring opportunities in the 2nd half. Junior John Parigger got the start in goal for the Raiders and was outstanding as he had 7 saves in the 2nd half. Coach Robert Harper said of his keeper following the game: “You could not ask for a better performance from a keeper that started his first varsity game.” The Raider coaches had praise for their young team for defensive play on the night but will look to get more production in the midfield and forward positions in the coming days. The Raiders begin a grueling stretch of games on Thursday in Unionville as they take on Community at 7 PM in Unionville. They follow that up with 3 games on Friday and Saturday in the Cleveland Classic. The next home match for Coffee County will be on Tuesday, March 22nd when Blackman visits the home pitch. Kickoff will be at 7 PM.
