CHS Basketball Gets Exciting Sweep Over Fayetteville on Tuesday Night

In a pair of exciting games that came down to the wire, the Coffee County Raiders and Lady Raiders swept a doubleheader from Fayetteville on Tuesday night at the Joe Frank Patch Memorial Gym. The Lady Raiders outlasted a scrappy Lady Tigers team to earn a 61 to 59 victory in double overtime. Listen to the game’s podcast
The Lady Raiders saw a 15 point lead at the start of the 4th quarter evaporate with 2 minutes to play as the Lady Tigers pushed Coffee County to overtime. In the first overtime, a Bailey Morgan 3 pointer helped the Lady Raiders erase a 3 point deficit to send it to a 2nd overtime. In the 2nd overtime, Morgan hit another big 3 pointer to help propel Coffee County to the win. Abby Morgan finished with 18 points while Bailey Morgan and Jacey Vaughn each had 11 points. For her clutch play in overtime, Bailey Morgan was named the Gateway Tire and Service player of the game. The Lady Raiders will be in action on Friday as they travel to Whitwell to take on Silverdale Academy in a 5 PM game in the Whitwell Christmas Tournament. The Red Raiders turned a 6 point 1st quarter deficit into a 7 point halftime lead as they upset the talented Tigers 51 to 50

The Raiders pushed their lead to 13 points in the 3rd quarter before Fayetteville’s Nick Hopkins scored 21 2nd half points to push the game to the final whistle. The Red Raiders hit 8 of their 9 fourth quarter free throws to hang on for the upset win. Coffee County was led in scoring by Wyatt Day who had 17 points to earn the Gateway Tire and Service player of the game honor. Grant Sadler finished the night with 12 points and Kohl Young added 7 points as Coffee County evened their record at 5 and 5 on the year. The Raiders are back in action on Saturday in the opening day of their Christmas Tournament. Coffee County will take on Bledsoe County at 2:30 PM at the Joe Frank Patch Memorial Gym.
