The Coffee County Middle School football team traveled to Winchester to take on South Franklin on Tuesday night. In a first half that saw 50 points scored, the South Trojans built a 30 to 20 halftime lead and held the Raiders scoreless in the second half to capture the 36 to 20 win.
South got on the board in their first 2 drives to build a 16 to 0 lead before Marshall Haney rumbled in with 2:14 left in the 1st quarter to make it 16 to 6. Each team scored twice in the 2nd quarter as Coffee County scored on a pair of passes. Jayden Yates caught a 55 yard touchdown pass from Kyle Farless with 4:25 left in the first half. After South’s second score, the Raiders answered 9 seconds later as Conner Shemwell hit Farless with a 50 yard touchdown pass. Haney added the 2 point conversion and that made the score 30 to 20 at the half. After a scoreless 3rd period, South added their last touchdown on the opening drive of the 4th quarter to capture the win on their homecoming.
The Red Raiders play host to North Franklin next Tuesday at Carden-Jarrell Field in the homecoming game. Kickoff is set for 6:30 PM.
