With the winning run at 3rd base and 1 out in the bottom of the 7th inning, it appeared that a fly ball to center field would lift Christiana to a win on Saturday over the Coffee County Middle baseball team. Trace Bryant had other ideas as he snagged the fly ball and threw a seed to the plate to nail the runner trying to score sending the game into extra innings. The Raiders added a pair of runs in the top of the 8th inning and escaped a no outs, bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the extra frame to capture the road win. The Raiders also needed 2 runs in the top of the 7th inning as they trailed the Cougars 10 to 8. Bryant and Cody Esslinger got big hits in the 7th to tie the game and set up the dramatic finish. Speaking of the finish, pitcher Harley Hinshaw loaded the bases with no one out but his defense stepped up again as Tyler Surber, who was playing 3rd base for the first time this year, made 2 solid plays to help give Hinshaw the relief win. Bryant was 4 for 4 at the plate for the Raiders while Colton Kerber was 3 for 4. The win is the 7th in a row for Coffee County as the Raiders return to conference play this week with a 5 and 1 conference record. The Raiders will take on Tullahoma this week on Monday and Tuesday in a pivotal series. Both games will begin a t 5:00 PM with Monday’s game at Coffee County Middle and Tuesday’s game at Waggoner Park in Tullahoma.
