The Coffee County Middle School 6th grade basketball teams opened their season on Monday night at home with a pair of impressive blowout wins over East Tullahoma. Each Raider team held their opponent scoreless in the first quarter as each team captured 25 point wins on the CCMS home floor.
The Lady Raiders held the Lady Panthers to no points in the first 7:32 as they built an 8 to 0 lead on their way to a 40 to 15 win. After leading 12 to 6 at the half, Coffee County exploded in the 3rd quarter to net 16 points and put the game on ice. The Lady Raiders had 10 different girls score on the night led by a trio that finished with 6 points. Katie Cotton, Abby Mahaffey and Holli Hancock all finished with 6 points.
The Red Raiders held the Panthers scoreless in the first 6:08 in building a 13 to 0 lead. East hit a free throw in the 1st possession of the 2nd quarter but did not have a field goal until late in the 3rd quarter as the Red Raiders built a 27 to 1 lead on their way to a 33 to 8 win. Dayne Crosslin led the Raiders in scoring as he netted 16 points. Jacob Holder added 5 points for Coffee County.
The Raiders and Lady Raiders travel to Decherd on Thursday night for a match up with North Franklin. The girls’ game is set to tip off at 6 PM.
