Some County Offices getting more Storage Space

Four Coffee County offices are housed in the Justice Center building in Manchester and have had storage issues for some time. The offices are the Circuit Court Clerk, Chancery Court, Clerk and Master, Youth Services, and Probation. Coffee County officials are trying to improve the situation by transforming some of the cell blocks at the old jail into storage rooms to be used by county offices. The old jail is located next to the Justice Center building. The intent is for the offices to move some of the older files to the soon-to-be-renovated storage area at the old jail....

Franklin County Woman Charged with Statutory Rape

A 59 year old Franklin County woman is being held in the Franklin County Jail under a $30,000 bond after being arrested for 3 counts of statutory rape. Janis M. Hill of Wilder’s Chapel Road, Decherd was arrested last week after being indicted by the Franklin County Grand Jury on the charges. The indictments allege that the woman had sex with a boy who was at least 13 years old but under 18 on least three times. Just exactly what was trying to break into a Cannon County residence recently is the question that the TWRA is searching to provide the answer for. According to Cannon County Sheriff Department reports, Deputies were dispatched to a Vanhooser Road on Monday in reference to someone or something trying to break down the back door to the house. The resident stated that something was beating on the door before the call was made. Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam has announced the reappointment of Mark Gwyn as director of the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI). Gwyn, 53, has led Tennessee’s lead investigative law enforcement agency for 12 years. Lawsuit Filed in pursuit of Stolen Vehicle

On June 24 Jessica Campos age 28 of Murfreesboro, was killed when her car was struck by a vehicle driven by Garieon Simmons of Decherd. Authorities were pursuing Simmons after he reportedly stole a Cadillac Escalade from the Coffee County Funeral Chapel on the McMinnville Highway in Manchester. At times Simmons was allegedly traveling on the wrong side of the road including Interstate 24. The family of Campos has filed a $10 million lawsuit. Fugitive and Female Arrested in Tullahoma

On Tuesday, Investigators with the Coffee County Sheriff’s Department working alongside Investigators with the Tullahoma Police Department arrested a wanted fugitive from Coffee County. Andrew Jefferson age 35 of East Moore St in Tullahoma was wanted on at least 11 warrants. Also arrested was Chelsea Lynette Nunley age 28 of Tullahoma with accessory after the fact. When Jefferson was taken into custody he was found to be possession of what is believed to be 4 grams of cocaine and allegedly a stolen Taurus 9mm pistol. No New Information in the Death of Grundy County Woman

Grundy County Sheriff Clint Shrum says that laboratory reports are still pending in the death of 26-year-old Grundy County, mother Samantha Kathleen Chandler. Although authorities in May had “a strong lead,” Shrum said there have been no new developments or new details to release. No charges have been filed. Chandler’s body was found May 1 about 150 feet off a remote, rural road in an isolated area south of the town of Gruetli-Laager.
