On Sunday Coffee County deputies had stopped for lunch at the McDonald’s on the Hillsboro Highway. Upon exiting his car, Corporal Harmon Campbell said he smelled a very strong odor of marijuana nearby. A male subject was in the front seat passenger seat of the vehicle where the odor was detected. Manchester Police is warning potential home renters of a scam that is looking for victims. According to Investigator Jackie Matheny, someone is taking rental postings on the Zillow real estate website and re-posting them on Craigslist. Coffee County Receives $50,000

State officials say 29 Tennessee communities will receive more than $1 million in grants to improve tourism infrastructure. Gov. Bill Haslam and Economic and Community Development Commissioner Randy Boyd said Thursday that the Tourism Enhancement Grants help counties and cities increase the economic impact of tourism. Grants range from $10,000 to $50,000. The grants are funded through the Rural Economic Opportunity Act, which is designed to improve economies in rural communities across the state. Motlow State Community College will offer nine non-credit community classes beginning in February, according to Tom Dillingham, director of workforce development and extended services. Coffee County Sheriff’s Department Personnel make I-24 Drug Bust

On Thursday (January 19, 2017) Coffee County Sheriff’s department personnel were working a joint operation with Franklin County authorities. They observed a silver Jeep traveling westbound on Interstate 24, which was driven by a man identified as Steven Powers. The vehicle was allegedly traveling at a high rate of speed. Coffee County Sheriff Investigator James Sherrill attempted to catch up with the vehicle, finally doing so at mile-marker 117. Powers was stopped by Deputy Lee Marcom at the 111 mile-marker. Man Arrested for Two Murders in Cannon County

Special Agents from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation have arrested and charged a Rutherford County man accused of killing two individuals and injuring a third in a Cannon County incident last weekend. At the request of 16th District Attorney General Jennings Jones, TBI Special Agents began investigating an incident that occurred on January 14th on Choctaw Drive in Woodbury. There, authorities discovered the body of David Wooten age 42, deceased from an apparent gunshot wound.
