Matheny wants Tennessee Pro Sports Teams to Stand Up or No More State Help
State Rep. Judd Matheny of Tullahoma says he is proposing that there be no more help for the state’s pro sports teams unless they change. Matheny, who is also running for Congress, posted on Facebook on Sunday that the bill he’ll present will be to prevent future deals with state help like the Tennessee Titans received more than 20 years ago. Unemployment Rate Drops in All 95 Counties
County unemployment numbers in Tennessee show that unemployment rates decreased in August in all 95 counties and significantly dropped in many rural counties. Coffee County had a huge drop in the unemployment rate for August, dropping from 4.1 percent in July to 3.5 percent in August. Bedford County fell to 4 percent from 4.7. Franklin County dipped from 4.4 percent in July to 3.7 percent in August. Moore County has one of the state’s lowest rates at 3.2 percent down from 3.8. Tennessee Promise Program Fosters Community Engagement
The free community college scholarships available through the state’s Tennessee Promise program are helping more than just the students. As part of the scholarship, students are required to perform eight hours of community service for every semester they’re in the program. United Kingdom Man Jailed for Sex Crimes across 3 Countries.
In September of 2016, Bedford County Sheriff’s Office detectives received a Cyber Tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children that involved a minor victim in imminent danger and an adult offender in their jurisdiction. After a thorough investigation, the offender was arrested and charged with Statutory Rape and Incest. Both the victim and the offender in the Bedford County case were two of several victims of online sextortion. Decherd’s former water works superintendent and a Franklin County business owner have been arrested and charged in connection with taking between $60,000 and $250,000 from the city, according to Franklin County Circuit Court records. Former Water Works Superintendent James Wesley Parks, 35, Harris Chapel Road, Winchester, was arrested Friday and charged with theft of property between $60,000 to $250,000. Moore County Guilty of Sexual Exploitation of Minors
Aaron Blake Campbell, a Moore County resident, pled guilty on Friday of Sexual Exploitation of Minors (Over 100 Images) and received a 9-year sentence to serve at 100%. Investigations into Campbell began in early April, who was already registered on the States Sex Offender Registry for similar crimes he committed as a juvenile. Manchester Officials Hold Meeting to Answer Questions about the Gun Found last week at Westwood Middle
On Thursday Sept. 14 a student at Manchester’s Westwood Middle School (WMS) reported that another student was in possession of a handgun. In a press release the following day, Manchester City Schools Director Lee Wilkerson said that school administrators immediately investigated and discovered an unloaded handgun in the possession of a student. Administrators immediately contacted the Manchester Police Department who confiscated the weapon and began an investigation.
