Conference Center in need of More Funding
Manchester-Coffee County Conference Center Manager Rebecca French says the center needs more money. Last week French presented the Coffee County Budget and Finance Committee with two proposals, one totaling $416,000. French says this one includes in-kind discounts given to nonprofit organizations and schools that rent the center. The second option, totaling about $316,000, does not include continued in-kind contributions. The center was built in 2002 for $3.5 million dollars with $1.5 million still owed. Alleged Stolen Car Leads to Four People being Arrested
On Thursday morning (May 17th, 2018) Tullahoma Officer Tommy Elliott stopped a vehicle and after checking the tag number it showed the vehicle as being stolen. James Matthew Hall age 32 of Tullahoma was the driver and Elliott asked Hall for consent to search and he allegedly told the officer that there was drug paraphernalia in a black bag in the floor board near the driver seat. Grundy County Looking for New Director of Schools
The Grundy County school board voted to part ways with Director of Schools Jessie Kinsey on Friday night. The board voted 5-3 in favor of buying out Kinsey’s contract at a price of $105,000. The system has been dealing with several issues since June of 2017. Kinsey and former board member Robert Foster filed a defamation of character and intentional inflection of emotional distress lawsuit against board member Kasey Anderson in June. Unemployment Rate Stay Steady
Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam and Department of Labor and Workforce Development Commissioner Burns Phillips have announced that Tennessee’s statewide unemployment rate for April was 3.4 percent, the third consecutive month the rate has held steady. The seasonally adjusted rate represents 0.6 percentage point decrease in unemployment compared to the same time period in 2017. April 2018 marks one year since Tennessee’s unemployment rate dropped to 4 percent for the first time in recent history. Man Arrested after Threat is made against Shelbyville High School
Investigators with the Bedford County Sheriff’s Office were contacted on Thursday (May 17, 2018) by the student resource officer at Shelbyville High School about some information received out of state about an adult who had made a threat online against the school. Upon investigating the information, Bedford County Sheriff’s Office investigators contacted the Board of Education, as well as the Shelbyville Police Department, in order to make them aware of the investigation. New Study shows more teens are thinking about Suicide
A new Vanderbilt study says more and more teens are thinking about taking their own lives. In fact, the number of teens has more than doubled in the last decade. Some common factors are school related stress, and social media. Nearly 2/3 of trips to the emergency room for attempted suicides are girls, and the most are among 15 to 17-year-olds.
