Tennessee Ranks 2nd for Worst Drivers
Tennessee is second in the nation for having the ‘worst drivers’ according to data compiled by the financial tech company SmartAsset. Rankings were based on four metrics for the rankings which includes the percent of drivers with insurance, number of DUIs per driver, average number of deaths per miles driven, and how often residents Google ‘traffic ticket’ or ‘speeding ticket.’ Tennessee ranked second thanks to low insurance coverage rates, DUI arrests per 1,000 drivers (4.45), the percent of uninsured drivers (20%), and the number of people killed per 100 million miles traveled (1.35). Very Good Broadcaster leaves us while Fishing
We at WMSR Radio lost a good friend and fellow broadcaster over the weekend. Rusty Reed, 47, owner of WLIJ-AM and WZNG-AM in Shelbyville, collapsed and died Saturday while on a fishing trip in Destin, Florida. A candlelight vigil for Reed will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday night at Hulan Field in H.V. Griffin Park in Shelbyville. Reed’s station WLIJ is a member of Friday Night Thunder show produced by WMSR. Our condolences to Reed’s family and friends. Reed is survived by his wife, son, parents, a sister and two nephews. Stolen Golf Clubs Leads to Investigation
On Saturday, (August 18, 2018) around 1:30pm Coffee County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Charlie Taylor, received a call about the theft of golf clubs from WillowBrook Golf Course, 6751 McMinnville Highway, Manchester, TN. Taylor spoke with three people that advised that a subject had stolen two sets of golf clubs from the back of a pickup. Manchester Area Chamber of Commerce has an immediate opening for its Executive Director position. Terri Hudson has been serving in that role for around 3 years. Hudson came to Manchester from her hometown of Richmond, KY. Hudson will be returning to Kentucky after accepting her new job. Gas Prices Decline Slightly
The average American is now paying 50 cents more per gallon of gasoline than they did this time last year. However, gas prices are declining across most of the U.S. The national average on Sunday was $2.84 per gallon-a discount of 2 cents from the week before. Gas prices in Tennessee declined for the 16th consecutive day Sunday. The state average of $2.61 per gallon is 2 cents less than a week ago and 1 cent less than a month ago.
