Correctional Officers Graduate from Tennessee Correction Academy in Tullahoma
After weeks of training, the Tennessee Department of Corrections (TDOC) welcomed a new class of Correctional Officers into the workforce on Friday. The Tennessee Correction Academy in Tullahoma graduated 59 people from their Basic Correctional Officers Training program. Shannon Green, Assistant Warden at Bledsoe County Correctional Complex gave the keynote address. Green took the time to encourage the new officers by reminding them to not give up, never stop learning and to honor the Tennessee Department of Correction’s oath. Marijuana and Meth found on Female after Traffic Stop
According to a police report, Marijuana and meth were found on a driver Thursday after police stopped her due to a Franklin County warrant for her arrest. Shelbyville Police say that Kathleen May Ledbetter, 36, of South Maple Street, allegedly had .10 grams of marijuana, .03 grams of meth, and drug paraphernalia within a lock box in her vehicle when she was stopped on North Main Street. She was charged with possession of schedule II and VI drugs and paraphernalia, driving on a suspended license and failure to appear. At last report, Ledbetter was being held on $100,000 bond....

Man in Custody after he took Pictures Unlawfully
A Fayetteville man is in custody after agents said he unlawfully took pictures of a woman. According to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, 32-year-old Andrew Laten Williams accessed the victim’s phone while she was sleeping and took photos of her partially covered without her consent. Agents said Williams sent the pictures from her phone to a male acquaintance of the victim. TBI also learned that Williams took screenshots of photographs of the victim from her phone and sent those to another male acquaintance of the victim. State Unemployment Rate for August
Tennessee officials say the state’s unemployment rate continues to remain near historic low levels. According to preliminary numbers released Thursday, Tennessee’s unemployment rate was 3.6 percent for August or about 0.1 percent higher than it was in July. The state’s unemployment rate had been 3.5 percent for three consecutive months. The all-time lowest unemployment rate was 3.3 percent in September 2017, which lasted until January 2018. Gov. Woman Now Owed at Least $1 Million will see case Appealed Again by Coffee County Government
Melinda Keeling who worked for the Coffee County Department of Codes and Safety from 2006 to 2010, filed a claim under the Tennessee Public Employee Political Freedom Act (PEPFA) following her dismissal. A jury found in favor of Keeling on Jan. 12, 2017 and awarded her damages in the amount of $10,000. Those damages, according to state law, were tripled to $30,000. An order by the Circuit Court of Coffee County, filed on May 1, states that the plaintiff is entitled to back-pay damages and front-pay damages. Education Commissioner Candice McQueen announced the 2018 Reward and Priority schools, which are two key designations under Tennessee’s school accountability system. This was the first year Tennessee implemented its new school accountability model, which was developed with educators and stakeholders across the state and which looks at multiple measures of success.
