National Emergency Alert Test set for Wednesday
The Tennessee Emergency Management Agency (TEMA) is reminding Tennesseans today to be aware of the planned national emergency alert test that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will conduct on Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2018. On Wednesday, FEMA and the Federal Communications Commission will conduct a nationwide test of the Integrated Public Alert and Warning System. The national test will include both a Wireless Emergency Alert message, sent to mobile devices, at 1:18 p.m., Central, and an Emergency Alert System (EAS) message, to be broadcast on radio and television, at 1:20 p.m., Central. Murder Suspect Caught
A Bedford County man wanted by authorities and listed as one of TBI’s Top 10 Most Wanted suspects was arrested by Murfreesboro Police on Saturday night. Jesse Ray Laurin, 32, was wanted by Shelbyville Police on a charge of second-degree murder in a fatal stabbing on Sept. 26, according to the TBI. County Unemployment Rates Drop
Unemployment rates improved across a vast majority of Tennessee in August. 86 of the state’s 95 counties experienced lower unemployment, according to numbers from the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development. Coffee County’s unemployment rate for August went down from 3.9 percent in July to 3.7 percent. Bedford County dropped from 4.6 percent to 4.2. The unemployment rate in Franklin County fell from 3.9 percent in July to 3.7 percent in August. Down in Moore County the rate dropped from 3.6 to 3.3 percent. Report: TN Missing Chance to Support Young Parents and Kids
Tennessee has the potential to do a better job helping young parents. And failing to do so could leave an impact on multiple generations. That’s according to a report released by the Annie E. Casey Foundation, called “Opening Doors for Young Parents.” The study underscored the need for increased programs to support people between the ages of 18 and 24 who have children. City Leaf Vaccum Service begins again Oct. 8, 2018
The City of Manchester, Street Department provides leaf vacuum service to all city residents from Fall to Spring of each year. City Leaf Vacuum Service will resume again this fall on October 8. All leaves and grass must be recycled under State and Federal regulations. Hillsboro Family Loses Home to Fire
A fire destroyed a home in Hillsboro on Wednesday morning. The home was located 1050 Meadows Rd. in Hillsboro. Three volunteer fire departments responded along with the sheriff’s department, EMS and the rescue squad. The home is owned by Robert Thompson, III and his wife Samantha. No injuries were reported. Shelbyville Man on TBI Most Wanted List after Fatal Stabbing
On Wednesday morning (September 26, 2018) at approximately 12:39am the Shelbyville Police Department was dispatched to a report of a stabbing on Choctaw Drive. Responding officers attempted life-saving measures on the victim, however 25 year-old William Prater was pronounced deceased at Tennova Hospital in Shelbyville. Jesse Laurin, 32, allegedly thought Prater was making too much noise and stabbed him once in the upper stomach area just below the chest with a knife. Alabama Police Pursuit Ends in Tennessee
On Tuesday September 25th at approximately 4:15pm, Franklin County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the area of Circle E. Ranch located on Keith Springs Mountain in reference to Jackson County Alabama Sheriff’s Office and Scottsboro, AL Police Department being in pursuit of a vehicle.
