Judge Hearing Class-Action Lawsuit Against the State concerning TennCare

A federal judge is hearing arguments in a class-action lawsuit that claims delays in processing TennCare applications have left thousands of low-income Tennesseans without timely access to medical care. TennCare applicants testified in court in Nashville on Tuesday in a lawsuit that was originally filed in 2014 after the rollout of the Affordable Care Act. At the time, the state’s computer system was unable to handle a new method of determining TennCare eligibility. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says distracted driving is one of the most prevalent traffic safety problems among drivers of all ages. Statistics indicate distracted driving resulted in 3,450 fatalities nationwide in 2016, with nearly one-tenth of fatal crashes reported involving distractions. The trial of former Coffee County High School baseball coach Brad Weir will not take place as a plea agreement was agreed to between all parties on Wednesday. Weir was facing a 16-count indictment after being charged with having sex with a 15-year-old Coffee County student in 2015. He pled guilty to 3 counts. Terry Long of Decherd was arrested by Franklin County deputies on Friday on charges of aggravated assault, especially aggravated burglary and theft of property. Long was booked at the Franklin County Jail under a bond of $100,000. After a thorough investigation, a report filed by Investigator George Dyer stated that an altercation occurred between Long and H.L. Gipson was initiated over a dog being shot. Michael Garrison age 23 of Pelham was wanted on outstanding theft charges and failing to report to jail. Grundy County deputies received a tip of his whereabouts in the Layne’s Cove area in Grundy County on Monday. When deputies arrived, Garrison attempted to flee on a Polaris RZR.
