Manchester Man Not Guilty of Attempted 1st Degree Murder, Guilty of Aggravated Assault & Domestic Assault
On October 4, 2017, Leon Holmes, Jr. was reportedly involved in a domestic disturbance on Kefauver Street in Manchester, TN. He was in court this week for a jury trial. The arrest warrant stated that the man attacked a female by allegedly strangling her with the intent to kill her and her unborn child. Manchester Police charged Holmes with two counts of attempted first-degree murder and domestic assault. On Thursday (January 24, 2019) a jury found Holmes not guilty of the attempted first-degree murder charges but did find him guilty of aggravated assault and domestic assault. Former Fire Chief Indicted for Theft Over $10,000
An investigation by the Tennessee Comptroller’s Office has resulted in the indictment of Jamie Stephens, the former fire chief for the Keith Springs Volunteer Fire Department in Franklin County. Investigators determined that Stephens stole at least $20,293 from the fire department by making personal purchases. Stephens withdrew thousands of dollars in cash from the fire department checking and savings accounts. He also used the department’s debit card to purchase items such as televisions, food, gasoline, groceries, tires for his personal van, and a vacation rental in Panama City Beach. Manchester Resident to receive Governor’s Volunteer Star Award
Congratulations to Manchester resident Claude Morse, he will receive the Governor’s Volunteer Star Award for Coffee County. Claude was selected because of his extensive volunteer work with many organizations including the local VFW Post, Honor Flight, Wreath’s Across America, Highland Rim Shooting Club and so much more. The VFW Post submitted Morse’s name for the award. Claude will attend a ceremony in Nashville on February 10 to meet newly elected Governor Bill Lee. The ceremony for Claude will be at 1 pm. Vaughn Accepts Job Offer to become Manchester City Schools Director
On Wednesday evening Dr Joey Vaughn current Deputy Director of Coffee County schools accepted a job offer from the Manchester Board of Education to become the new Manchester City school’s director. Current Director of Schools Lee Wilkerson will be going on leave with pay on Feb. 16 until the end of his contract in June. Dr. Vaughn and the Board of Education agreed on a contract that pays him a yearly salary of $117,000 with a starting date of Feb. 1. Theft Occurs at Local Car Dealership– Your Help is Needed
Manchester Police is asking for the public’s help with a theft at a local car dealership. Surveillance video shows a man taking tools and he also tried to break into a safe at Al White Motors in Manchester on the Hillsboro Blvd. The crime happened on Saturday at the Ford dealership.
