Betty Joe Taylor

Betty Joe Taylor passed this life on Saturday, November 28, 2020 at the age of 78.  A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, December 2, 2020 at 12:00PM at High View Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Lynchburg Funeral Home from 10:00AM until 10:30AM.

Ms. Taylor, a native of Moore County, was the daughter of the late Aaron and Auretta Green Whitaker. She was a member of Elm Street Church of Christ where she loved being in attendance. Ms. Taylor also enjoyed talking on the phone while sitting on her front porch and picking turnip greens.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Gene Howard Whitaker.

She is survived by her son, Aaron Taylor (Hobrina) of Columbia, TN; daughters, Dr. Rita Whitaker of Murfreesboro, TN and Natalie Maxwell (Jason) of Belleville, IL; brothers, James Henry Whitaker and William Phillip Whitaker (Marlene); special friends, Jewell Wells, Minnie Henderson, and Stephanie McGowen; grandchildren, Aaron Joseph Whitaker, D.J. Key, and Allata Taylor; great granddaughter, Khloee Jo Kuhn.

Veeda Mae Tidwell Mayberry

 Mrs. Veeda Mae Tidwell Mayberry, age 88, of
Manchester, TN, passed away on Friday, November 27, 2020, in Murfreesboro,
TN.

Mrs. Mayberry was born in Hickman Co., TN, to her late parents Leechie E.
Tidwell and Dollie Pendergrass Tidwell. She was a nurse technician and
receptionist for Dr. Young here in Manchester before retirement. Mrs.
Mayberry was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Manchester. In
her free time, she loved crocheting, baking sourdough bread, gardening,
square dancing and travelling. In addition to her parents, she was preceded
in death by her husband, John W. Mayberry; son-in-law, Timmy Sain;
brothers-in-law, Sam Litton and Kenneth Tidwell.

Mrs. Mayberry is survived by daughters, Pam Sain and Penney (Garry)
Gilliland; sister-in-law, Cecile (Jack) Allen; sisters, Charlesta
(Clarence) Litton and Joy Tidwell; grandchildren, Kyle (Christi), Sloane,
Connor, Whitney (Lee), and Brittany (Lee); great grandchildren, Elena,
Annelyse, Gunnar, Sawyer, Knox, Koby (Shawnda), and Ceanna; several nieces
and nephews; her cat, Smokey, and her dog, Hachi.

Graveside services will be conducted on Wednesday, December 2, 2020, at
2:00pm at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens in Tullahoma, TN.

Wilma Bush

Mrs. Wilma Bush, age 88, of Manchester passed from this life on Friday, November 27, 2020, at St. Thomas – Midtown in Nashville, TN.  Wilma was born in Manchester on September 7, 1932, the daughter of the late Oscar and Della Clouse.  She was a beloved teacher for the Coffee County Schools and was dedicated to the education of children for over 30 years.  Wilma had a love for church and family.  She had a joy of life and serving others and was a hard worker.  Wilma was very social, she loved to travel, and she was very dedicated to her husband.  She loved birds, flowers, and dolls.  She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister.

In addition to her parents, Wilma is also preceded in death by her husband, Roy Bush; brothers, Infant Baby Brother, James Clouse, and Johnny Clouse; sister, Sandra Clouse.  She is survived by her son, David Bush (Lee Ann); daughter, Jo Anne Sorrell (Jim); brother, Charles Clouse; sisters, Joyce Ladd, Sue Banks, and Jane Lusk; grandchildren, Kirsten Roy (Aaron), Landon Bush (Rachel), Kevin Lillis, Chelsea Ison (Logan), Erin Eudaly (Stewart), Andrew Fulks, Parker Bush (Devan), Shelly Fulks; great-grandchildren, Kendall Bush, Hali Bush, Patrick Eudaly, Shae Bush, and Madison Eudaly; chosen family member, Dwayne Fulks (Glenna).

Due to COVID-19 a Celebration of Life will be conducted at a later date.

Gary Messick

Funeral services for Mr. Gary Messick, age 75, of Manchester will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, December 1, 2020, at Coffee County Funeral Chapel.  Burial will follow in Rose Hill Memorial Gardens.  The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM until the time of service at the funeral home.  Mr. Messick passed from this life on Friday, November 27, 2020, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN.

Gary was born in Woodbury, TN, the son of the late Horace and Annie Messick.  He was a very easy going guy, who liked to crack jokes and always had a smile on his face.  Gary was a kind, gentle hearted man who loved his family, friends, and church family.  He was a loving father and brother.

In addition to his parents, Gary is also preceded in death by one son, Curtis Messick; one sister, Dorothy Presley.  He is survived by one son, Jason Messick (Sharon); one sister, Selene Yarbrough; many extended family members.

The family asks that due to COVID-19, everyone in attendance please wear a mask.

Jewel Mae Wiser Smartt

Mrs. Jewel Mae Wiser Smartt, age 87, of Hermitage,
TN, passed away on Friday, November 27, 2020, in Nashville, TN after an
extended illness.

Mrs. Smartt was born in Coffee Co., TN, to her late parents William Alfred
Wiser and Penny Irene Charles Wiser. She worked for Bell South for many
years serving in many capacities, most recently in clerical work with the
dial bureau before her retirement. Mrs. Smartt was a member of the
Telephone Pioneers and loved sewing, crocheting and reading. In addition to
her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Thomas
Smartt; son Michael Charles Smartt; brother, Herman Wiser; sisters, Frances
Huddleston, Wilma Lasiter, and Louise Peay.

Mrs. Smartt is survived by her daughters, Brenda Gale Black and Vicki
(Marshall) Lynne West; brothers, John (Emily) Clayton Wiser and Leighton
Wiser; sisters, Barbara Livesay; eight grandchildren, twelve great
grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 1, 2020, from 12 noon
until 2:00pm at Central Funeral Home in Manchester, TN. Funeral services
will be conducted following visitation at 2:00pm with Bro. Danny Anderson
officiating. Burial will follow in Hillsboro Presbyterian Cemetery in
Hillsboro, TN.

William “Bill” Crabtree

Funeral services for Mr. William “Bill” Crabtree, age 72, of Manchester will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Monday, November 30, 2020, at Coffee County Funeral Chapel.  Burial will follow in Old Redden’s Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until the time of service at the funeral home.  Mr. Crabtree passed from this life surrounded by his loving family on Friday, November 27, 2020, at his residence in Manchester, TN.

Bill was born in Coffee County on February 26, 1948, the son of the late James and Willie Mae Crabtree.  He worked for Batesville Casket Company for 34 years.  Bill loved going fishing and rabbit or squirrel hunting.  He made friends with everyone, and family meant everything to him.  He was a loving husband, father, brother, and grandfather.

In addition to his parents, Bill is also preceded in death by one brother, James Harold Crabtree.  He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Lila Crabtree; two sons, Steve Cobb (Julie) and William “Bill” Jr.; one daughter, April Ross (Shawn); one sister, Freda Driver (Barry); three grandchildren, Ciera Ballinger, Alexis Ross, and Kendall Ross; three great-grandchildren, Kennedy Skye Simmons, Kaiden Simmons, and Keeley Simmons.

Johnnie Faye Smith

Johnnie Faye Smith passed this life on Thursday, November 26, 2020 at the age of 74. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 1, 2020 at 1:00PM at Lynchburg Funeral Home with burial to follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Lynchburg Funeral Home from 11:00AM until funeral services begin.
Mrs. Smith, a native of Moore County, was the daughter of the late Jess Branch and Johnnie Maude Baker Branch. She was a member of Hickory Hill Baptist Church where she was also part of the choir. She worked for Delongs and Tyson Foods before becoming a fulltime homemaker. Mrs. Smith enjoyed time with her family and loved country and gospel music.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Joe Smith; siblings Harwell, Eugene, Christine, and Elaine Branch of Lynchburg, Louise Stewart of Fayetteville.
She is survived by her children, Sherry Heflin (Joel) of Shelbyville, Bill Smith (Christy) of Lynchburg; grandchildren, Matthew Smith (Becky), Nichole Smith (Kristin), Beth Heflin, Joey Heflin, Jess Smith, Cassie Yarbrough (Brandon); great grandchildren, Cameron Smith, Peyton Smith, Jana Douglas, Maci Douglas, Kiley Smith; and several cousin, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Kathryn Davis

Kathryn Davis of Manchester passed this life on Thursday, November 26, 2020
at her residence at the age of 94.  Graveside services are scheduled for
Saturday, December 5, 2020 at 10 AM at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens.

A native of Manchester, she was the daughter of the late James Robert and
Pearl Shelton Lynch.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death
by her husband, Grady Davis; sons, Kevin, Michael and Randall Davis; three
brothers and one sister.

Mrs. Davis is survived by daughter, Debra Swigart and her husband, Jim of
Washington, IL and four grandchildren.

Lloyd Waldo Ramsey

Lloyd Waldo Ramsey, of Tullahoma, passed this life on Tuesday, November 24th, 2020 at NHC at the age of 91. Mr. Ramsey was born in Clover, South Carolina to the late William and Cara Alexander Ramsey. He served his country proudly in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict and went on to work as a Quality Inspector with the Defense Contract Audit Agency. Mr. Ramsey was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, was an avid golfer and loved country music. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Janie Ramsey; and seven brothers and sisters. Mr. Ramsey is survived by four children, Terry Ramsey and his wife Virginia, Lori Floyd and her husband David, Mike Ramsey and his wife Lynn, and Mary Pridgen and her husband Chad; grandchildren, Amanda Hazlett, Kyle Floyd, Jamie Wulf, Derek Ramsey, Ryan Ramsey, Mallory Bailey, and Jake Ramsey; great-grandchildren, Skylar Ramsey, Sammera Wulf, Sasha Wulf, Sawyer Hazlett, Charlotte Hazlett, and Remi Bailey; and one sister, Lois Cochran. A memorial mass will be held on Friday, November 27th 2020 at 1:00pm at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church. Visitation will then be held on Friday, November 27th, 2020 at Kilgore Funeral Home from 5:00-7:00pm. John Richardson White

John Richardson White, of Lynchburg, passed this life on Tuesday, November 24th, 2020 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville at the age of 75. John was born in Hopkinsville, Kentucky to the late Judge Stephen Pettus White II and Katharine Winton Richardson White. He was a member of the Hopkinsville High School Class of 1963 and received the History Medal. John was also a member of the National Honor Society, Latin Club, Key Club, H-Club, Glee Club, baseball team, and basketball team. He went on to attend Sewanee, University of the South and graduated with his B.A. Cum Laude, Phi Betta Kappa, in the Class of 1967. While at Sewanee he was a member and President of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity and also achieved order of the Gownsmen as a freshman. John then went on to attend Vanderbilt University Law School and received his Doctor of Jurisprudence in May of 1971 and was a member of the Order of the COIF. He volunteered for military service in 1969, serving in the Army until receiving an honorable discharge in 1974. While in service to the United States of America he earned an Expert Marksmen Badge (Rifle M-14). John worked for First American Trust Department, Associated Milk Producers Inc. (AMPI), Barnett and Alazia litigation attorney, and Gordon and Bottorf. John had been practicing law with Bobo, Hunt and White for the last 29 and ½ years. He said many times, working with the Bobo firm were the best days of his practice of almost 50 years. John loved Kentucky Wildcats basketball, as well as all things baseball, golf and boating. He loved watching beautiful sunsets from home or on a beach. He also enjoyed fishing, playing the acoustic guitar, and a game of scrabble. He was an avid reader and loved to study U.S. and World History. John also loved visiting and talking with his family and friends and never met a stranger. Most of all, John enjoyed practicing law and going to battle in the courtroom against worthy opponents. He is survived by his wife, Joy Darden White; son, W. Britton White and his wife Jill, and their children, Mary Adeline “Addy” White and Porter White; son, Mark White and his wife Sue, and their son, Baird White; one brother, Stephen Pettus White III “Steve” and his wife Brenda of Asheville, North Carolina; nieces and nephews, Anne White of Knoxville, Kay Gillespie and her husband Niall of Cambridge, England, Rusty Edwards and his wife Melinda of Asheville, North Carolina, Lori Anderson and her husband Brian of Fletcher, North Carolina; special cousin, Betty P. Alsobrook and her husband Al of Gainesville, Florida and their children, John Alsobrook and his wife Jennifer and Cannon Alsobrook and his wife Lana; and special niece, nephew and grandnieces, Tabitha Darden Sehorne and her husband Tyler and their daughters, Ellie and Emmie Sehorne and T. Riley Darden.  A private graveside service will be held and a Celebration of Life service is being planned for a later date.
