9/17/12 — Evelyn Douglas
Mrs. Evelyn Douglas, age 78, of Tullahoma, passed away Wednesday night at the Manchester Health Care Center.
A native of Oppenheim, New York, she was the daughter of the late Fred, Jr. and Beatrice Monk Clemons.
She was a bookkeeper at Paul Newman Chrysler Plymouth, secretary and treasurer at Clemons Lumber Company, salesperson for 4 Star Brokerage, and was a member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Debbie Steele in 2011, her sister; Ruth Hudson, and her brother; Eugene Clemons.
She is survived by her loving husband, Dayton Douglas, two daughters; Christine (Ricky) Floyd of Tullahoma, Patricia (Victor) Stewart of Tullahoma, one son-in-law; Larry Steele of Florida, seven grandchildren; Lisa Sonnenberg, Larry (Alma) Steele, Sarah (Rhi) Jones, Harlow (Brandi) Chatterton, David (Amy) Snell, Heather (Jon) Ferrera, and Chad Shaut, 12 great-grandchildren, and one sister; June Brucker of New York.
Memorial services will be conducted Monday at 6:00PM at the Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church with Pastor David Rash officiating.
The family suggests that memorial donations be made to Polio Heroes, 529 Albany Drive Hermitage, TN 37076-1422 or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

9/20/12 — Minnie Frances Bell Davis
Memorial services for Mrs. Minnie Frances Bell Davis, age 81 of Manchester will be conducted Thursday, September 20, 2012 at 5:00 PM at New Union Church of Christ with Brother Charles Williams officiating.
Inurnment will follow services at Farrar Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Davis passed away Thursday, September 13, 2012 at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville.
She was born August 13, 1931 in Coffee County the daughter of the late John Bell and Lyda Peay Bell.
In earlier years, she and her husband, Noel Davis managed Kingwood Arms on the McMinnville Hwy for over 20 years. Frances was a devoted homemaker who enjoyed gardening. She attended New Union Church of Christ.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Noel Douglas Davis, a son, David Davis and six brothers and sisters, Earl Bell, William Bell, Cliffton Bell, Ethel Craft, Bessie Vickers and Florence Bishop.
Survivors include a son, Doug Davis of Manchester and three grandchildren, Allen Davis of Madison, TN; Beth Davis of Cookeville, TN and Christi Davis also of Cookeville, TN.

9/17/12 — Jennings “Jay” C. Byrd
Mr. Jennings “Jay” C. Byrd, age 89, of Tullahoma, passed away Thursday evening at Harton Regional Medical Center.
A native of Wilmington, N.C. he was the son of the late Henry Carson and Addie Mae Byrd.
A graduate from the University of North Carolina in 1947, Mr. Byrd was an avid lifelong North Carolina basketball fan. He served his country in the United States Army Air Corp, from 1943-1945, before starting work at AEDC in 1952 as a personnel manager and recruiter, where his career spanned 30 years. In 1954, he married his loving wife, Maude Stone Moore Byrd, who preceded him in death in 2003.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one sister; Dorothy Byrd Hardy and one brother; Henry Carson Byrd II.
He is survived by one son; David Jennings (Janice) Byrd of Tullahoma, one daughter; Marilyn Howard of Tullahoma, two grandchildren; Jonathan Byrd and Stephanie Howard, one sister; Mary Frances (Lee) Byrd Otts, and a special nephew; Dr. Gregg (Ellen) Hardy of North Carolina and several other nieces and nephews.
Visitation with the family will be Monday, from 12:00PM until 2:00PM. Funeral services will follow at 2:00PM in the chapel of Tullahoma Funeral Home with Rev. Tom Murdoch officiating.
Burial will follow in Lynchburg City Cemetery.

9/19/12 — Etha O. Jackson Evans
Funeral services for Mrs. Etha O. Jackson Evans, age 92, of Manchester, will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at Manchester Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jim Parks and Rev. Thaddeus Ashby officiating.
Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery in Tullahoma.
Visitation with the family will be from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Tuesday, September 18 at the funeral home.
Mrs. Evans passed away Saturday at United Regional Medical Center in Manchester.
Mrs. Evans was born in Phil Campbell, AL, the daughter of the late Columbus T. and Ruth Fannin Jackson.
Mrs. Evans married her late husband, L.A. Evans in 1943 after moving from Alabama to Coffee County in the late 1930s. They were married for over 60 years until he passed away in 2000. She retired as a seamstress from Eden Industries in the early 1990’s and was also employed at Pajama Corporation of America. She attended St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, where she and her husband were founding members. Her many hobbies included gardening, reading, church activities, activities with Senior Citizens, cooking, and spending time with her family and grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Mrs. Evans was also preceded in death by one son, Randall L. Evans; one brother, Alfred Jackson; and one sister, Ila Woodard.
She is survived by one son, Terry W. (Carol) Evans of Oak Ridge, TN; one daughter, Glenda G. (Larry) Floyd of Manchester; a daughter-in-law, Marta Evans of California; one brother, Roy Eugene “Boots” (Ruth) Jackson of Murfreesboro; four grandchildren, Maranda Evans of Columbus, OH, Aftin (Jonathan) Croft and Justin Parson, both of Manchester, and Jonathan Evans of Oak Ridge; one great grandchild, Kinsleigh Croft; and several nieces and nephews and a host of loving friends.
The family would like to thank St. Paul United Methodist Church members and many other friends and neighbors who provided help and friendship for many years.

Mr. Thomas Higdon Schroeder age 79 of Tracy City, Tennessee went to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 15, 2012 at his home.

William Edward Cantrell, I age 65 of Monteagle, Tennessee passed away September 16, 2012.
He proudly served his country with the U.S. Navy (fighting fourty CB’s) during the Vietnam War.
He was preceded in death by his father Eugene Brooks Cantrell and mother Lula Mae Cantrell; infant son Eugene Brooks Cantrell II; wife Nelena Oliver Cantrell; brother Roy Cochran and Gary Don Cantrell all of Monteagle, Tennessee.
Survivors include daughter Margret ( Rodger) Busby of Antioch, TN; son William Edward Cantrell II of Monteagle; brothers and sisters Carl (LaDonna) Cantrell, Margret ( Scooter) McFarland, Bonnie (David) Garner all of Monteagle; Nancy (Michael) Ward of Winchester, TN; Alice (Roger) Childress of Abington, VA; Robert Cantrell of Monteagle; Gloria (Barry) McFarland, Tina (Jamie) Layne, Carol (John) Collins, all of Tracy City, TN; Kenneth (Anna) Cantrell, Ronnie (Tammy) Cantrell of Knoxville, TN; Jimmy (Cathy) Cantrell of Sewanee; many nieces, nephews, and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 P.M. Sunday, September 23, 2012 in the funeral home chapel.
A graveside service will follow in Monteagle Cemetery with full military honors.

Funeral services for Mrs. Gladys Lucille Vaughn, age 96 of Manchester will be conducted at 3pm, Tuesday, Sept. 18 at the Manchester Funeral Home Chapel with Ray Armstrong and John Hill officiating.
Burial will follow in the Fredonia Cemetery.
Visitation with the family will be from 6pm until 8pm, Monday at Manchester Funeral Home .
Mrs. Vaughn passed away Saturday at the Medical Center of Manchester.
Mrs. Vaughn was born in Clay County, Tennessee the daughter of the late Alto and Nan Stafford Boles.
She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith. Mrs. Vaughn loved to sew, word search, play bingo, was an avid bird watcher and doll collector and enjoyed watching the Tennessee Titans.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Lushion Vaughn, by 2 daughters, Nannie Francis Huber and Nancy Avoe Morris, , by 4 sisters, Emma Boles Copeland, Baltie Boles Cargile, Ruth Boles Montgomery and Fannie Boles Mathis, by 2 brothers, Sam and Willie Boles and by 3 grandchildren, Gladys A. Monroe, Lisa Jensen and Kevin Vaughn.
Mrs. Vaughn is survived by:
2 daughters- Lorell Vaughn (Ray) Reeves of Normandy and Susie Vaughn (David) Nelson of Flat Creek;
2 sons, David (Phyllis) Vaughn of Tullahoma and Benny (Lee) Vaughn of Tullahoma;
27 grandchildren, and numerous great grandchildren, great great grandchildren.

Funeral services for Daniel B. “Boone” Smith, age 65 of Manchester will be conducted at 11:30am, Wednesday, September 19 at the Manchester Funeral Home Chapel with Scotty Sorrells officiating.
Burial will follow in the Wesley Chapel Cemetery.

Mr. Smith passed away Sunday morning as his home surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Smith was born in Lynchburg, Tennessee the son of the late Lem and Linda B. Reese Smith.
He retired from Carrier in 2005. Mr. Smith was a Christian and attended the Wesley Chapel and Mt. Carmel Churches. Mr. Smith enjoyed auto racing, rabbit hunting, collecting knives and he also made walking sticks for the Boy Scouts. His favorite thing to do was simply working.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Smith was also preceded in death by 2 brothers, Harold Smith and Paul Smith, and by in-laws, Lena & Rusty Clayborn, Billy Clayborn.
