1/15/15 —– Herbert Edward Insel

Herbert Edward Insel, of Tullahoma, passed this life on Monday, January 12th, 2015 at St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital in Murfreesboro at the age of 89.

Mr. Insel was born on January 17th, 1925 in Rutherford County to the late Walter and Goldie Insel and went on to graduate from Rockvale High School. He enlisted in the Army at the beginning of World War II, serving in France and was a POW, released in 1945. After the war, he went into business-first as a prize-winning salesman for Goodyear Tire Company, then with Sinclair Oil Company in Tullahoma, and Lion Oil Company, which he owned a service station with in Tullahoma. Herb cared deeply for the Tullahoma business community. He was one of the men who was instrumental in developing the charter for the Kiwanis Service Club in Tullahoma. He was outgoing, friendly, a family man, outdoorsman, fisherman, and sea shell collector. Herb was also a lifelong leader for the Boy Scouts of America and was involved with troops throughout the Trail of Tears Council. He was a member of the Order of the Arrow and worked extensively with young scouts alongside his brother, Billy Insel.

Mr. Insel is preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Goldie Insel; four sisters, Wenzola Gould, Hazel Gillespie, Artie Clark, and Deanie Smith; his first wife, Mildred Insel; and one step daughter, Sheila Brown.

He is survived by his wife, Johnnie Insel; two daughters, Pam (Tony) Burke, and Patsy (Irwin) Graham; brother and sister, Billy Insel and Olene Burns; step-children, Steve (Jo) Evans, Jerry (Charlotte) Evans, and Jimmy Brown; grandchildren, Jennifer Burke, Patrick Burke, Alex Graham, Sandy Jones, Angel Bowen, Wade Evans, Misty Edde, Jason Evans, Casey Evans, Wendy Sears, and Gary Scott. He was surrounded with love also by his 17 great-grandchildren.

Visitation for Mr. Insel will be held on Wednesday, January 14th, 2015 at Kilgore Funeral Home from 5:00-8:00pm.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 15th, 2015 at 2:00pm in the Kilgore Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Pat Allison officiating.

Burial with military honors will follow at Pennington Cemetery in Franklin County. vet

Kathleen “Kathy” Roberts
(June 14, 1933 – January 10, 2015)

Manchester, TN resident and White County, TN native Kathleen “Kathy” Roberts, age 81, was born June 14, 1933 and died January 10, 2015 at Medical Center of Manchester following an extended illness.

A cook at Opal’s Cafe and a member of the Baptist Church, she was the daughter of the late Gordon Dewey and Mary Bell Harden Davis. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by son, Eugene Roberts; two daughters, Carolyn Ann Roberts and Brenda Lee Koontz; two sisters, Clata Mae George and Nona Mae Beckinham; brother, Carl Lee Davis; and great-grandson, Bently Driver.

She is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Gearldean and Wayne Madewell of Rock Island, TN; son, Cecil Lee Roberts of Manchester, TN; brother and sister-in-law, Everette Lee and Aliviny Davis of Quebeck, TN; nine grandchildren and twenty-nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 13, 2015 in High’s Chapel with Luke Hobbs officiating.

Burial will follow in Crain Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Monday and from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service Tuesday at High’s.

1/12/15 —– MARYDELL LEONA WILLIS

flower aMARYDELL LEONA WILLIS, age 81, of Belvidere, Tenn., departed this life Sunday, January 11, 2015 at Southern Tennessee Regional Health Systems in Winchester.

Marydell was a school teacher and taught in Longview, Wa. She loved to attend the Pickin’ Parlor in Belvidere where she had many friends. Mrs Willis was also an avid piano and guitar player.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Russell Willis of Belvidere, Tenn., daughter; MaryJean Willis of Seattle, WA, sons; Jim Willis of Longview, WA and John Willis and his wife, Tina of Jacksonville, FL, sister; Jenell Creed of Virginia, six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation for Mrs Willis will be from 3:00 P.M. – 5:00 P.M. on Monday, January 12, 2015 in the chapel of Grant Funeral Services.

A celebration of life memorial service will be held on Monday, January 12, 2015 at 5:00 P.M. in the chapel of Grant Funeral Services with Brother Bruce Shockley and Brother Mark Bassett officiating.

1/12/15 —— Selby Henley Clay

Mrs. Selby Henley Clay age 91 of Pelham passed away Saturday, January 10, 2015, at Harton Regional Medical Center in Tullahoma.

She was a daughter of the late Clarence Henley and Dessie Sanders Henley and was preceded in death by her husband, Judge Elston Clay; children, Kerry, Wendell and Katie Clay.

She is survived by her children, Wayne and his wife, Lottie Clay of Pelham and Connie and her husband, Elmer Morris of Manchester; 7 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Monday in the funeral home chapel with burial to follow in Warren Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Sunday 4-9 P.M. at the funeral home.

1/14/15 —— Wanda Lee Baker Bush

Wanda Lee Baker Bush of Hillsboro, TN passed away Saturday, Jan. 10, 2015 at her residence at the age of 83.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Jan. 14 at 2 p.m. at the Daves-Culbertson Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow at Prairie Plains Methodist Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. until time of service.

A native of Coffee County, she was the daughter of the late Ruffin Baker and Marcia Mosher Baker.

She was retired from AEDC after 43 years of service as an Associate Computer Programmer. She was a member of Prairie Plains Baptist Church. She also enjoyed gardening and crocheting.

In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband Fred Bush, brother Curtis Baker and a sister Carrie Elizabeth Baker.

She is survived by a son Fred L. Bush of the Prairie Plains Community and his special friend Rosie Barnes and Mrs. Bush’s heroine of Hillsboro. Her daughter Cynthia Pellham of the Prairie Plains Community. Nephew Steven Baker and his wife Betsy of Covington, Ga.

Funeral services for Mr. James Thomas Franklin, age 82 of Manchester will be conducted at 3 pm, Tuesday, January 13 from the Manchester Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Brandon Stutts officiating.

Burial with military honors will follow at the Concord Cemetery.

Visitation with the Franklin family will be from 11 am Tuesday until funeral time at the funeral home. Mr. Franklin passed this life Sunday, January 11, 2015 at his home in Manchester surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Franklin was born in Overton County, Tennessee the son of the late William Hugh Franklin and Elizabeth Grace York Franklin.

He was a veteran of the Korean War and the Vietnam War, serving sixteen years in the US Navy as a Chief Petty officer. Following his service in the Navy, Mr. Franklin served in the National Guard for three years. James was a Christian man, loved to walk, hike, watch birds and was a avid reader. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, and often taking them on hiking adventures.

In addition to his parents, James was also preceded in death by a grandson, Jagger, by four brothers, William, Harvey, Don, Jerry and Doyle Lee Franklin, and by a sister, Vonda Petgen. He is survived by:

Funeral services for Mr. Dudley Frank Bush, age 75, of Manchester, will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at Manchester Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Joe Gibbons officiating.

Mr. Bush passed away Friday morning at Manchester Healthcare.

Dudley was born in Coffee County, TN, the son of the late William J. and Ruby J. Darnell Bush.

He was a press operator for Carrier Air Conditioning.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Bush was also preceded in death by his wife, Margaret L. Bush, who passed away in 2009; two sons, Mark Bush and Tom Hastings; four brothers, Flavy, Cornie, Lloyd, Clayton, and Dewey Bush; and three sisters, Chestel, Lura Dell, and Joy.

He is survived by one son, Wayne Bush of Smithville, TN; three daughters, Connie L. Duggin and Lorrie Hastings, both of Manchester, and Nancy Norris of Smyrna; one brother, Roy Bush of Manchester; 11 grandchildren; and 21 great grandchildren.

1/10/15 —– Clarence Edward Kilgore Jr.

Mr. Clarence Edward Kilgore Jr. age 86 of Tracy City, Tennessee passed away Tuesday, January 6, 2015, in Southern Tennessee Medical Center in Sewanee.

He was a son of the late Clarence E. Kilgore, Sr. and Theona A. Haynes Kilgore and was preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn Cunningham; brother, George Kilgore.

Mr. Kilgore was a retired educator with Grundy County and retired from the U.S. Postal Service. He was a member of Monteagle Church of Christ, the Sportsman Club, was a U.S. Army veteran. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting & fishing. He loved reading his Bible and reading westerns.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Mary Jo Kilgore; brother, David S. (Judy) Kilgore, Chattanooga; sisters, Catherine Flury and Emma Ruth (Morris) Kilgore Roberts both of Tracy City; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday in funeral home chapel with Ministers Paul Tittle and Creig Kimbro officiating.

Burial will be in Plainview Cemetery with full military honors provided by Sequatchie Valley Honor Guard.

The family will receive friends Friday 3-6 P.M. at the funeral home.

Ms. Hastings passed away Thursday morning at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville, TN.

Susie was born in Franklin County, the daughter of the late John and Nettie Lucille Osborne Partin.

She was a homemaker. Susie enjoyed reading, fishing, working crossword puzzles, walking, watching The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful on TV, spending time with family, playing on Facebook, and talking with Lucille Hall, one of her closest best friends.

In addition to her parents, Susie was also preceded in death by two brothers, Frank and James Partin; three sisters, Lilly May Bowen, Marie Partin, and Sue Stewart.

She is survived by one son, Charles Franklin Hall of Manchester; two daughters, Sherry A. Curry and Brenda Hastings, both of Manchester; two brothers, Alton (Georgia) Partin of Franklin County and Bobby Partin of Tullahoma; three grandchildren, Diana Curry, Tasha Jones, and Sierra Harris; and three great grandchildren, Mia McCormick, Dallas Bowen, and Allison Curry.
