5/14/19–Gene Thomas
Graveside services for Mr. Gene Thomas, age 91, of Beechgrove, TN, will be conducted at 12:30 PM on Tuesday, May 14, 2019 at New Beechgrove Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM on Tuesday at Manchester Funeral Home. Mr. Thomas passed away on Sunday, May 5, 2019 at St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital in Murfreesboro, TN.
Gene was born in Southside, TN, the son of the late Wilbur T. and E.C. Talley Thomas. He proudly served his country in the Merchant Marines during World War II. Gene was an accountant and attended First Baptist Church of Beechgrove. His favorite hobby was reading.
In addition to his parents, Gene was also preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Thomas. He is survived by his son, Jon (Dr. Beth) Thomas; daughters, Linda Thomas and Sharon (Bill) Culp; brother, Tommy Thomas; sister, Brenda Thomas; grandchildren, Nicole Culp and Justin (Kelly) Culp; and great grandchildren, Christian, Ethan, and Vivian Culp.

5/11/19 — Joseph Frank, Stugis, Jr.
Funeral services for Mr. Joseph Frank Stugis, Jr., age 71 of Manchester, will be conducted on Saturday, May 11, 2019 at 2:00 P.M. at Coffee County Funeral Chapel with Jeff Collet officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Saturday prior to the service from 9:00 A.M. until 2:00 P.M. Mr. Stugis passed away on Saturday, May 4, 2019 at his home.
Joe was born on December 19, 1947 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Joseph Frank Stugis, Sr. and Claire Victoria Wcislo Stugis. He loved his country and was a United States Army Veteran. Mr. Stugis enjoyed vegetable gardening, fishing, cooking and grilling. He was an avid animal lover, but above all else he was an outstanding husband, father, Poppy and great-grandfather.
Survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Rita Ball Stugis; children, Sally Stugis Cordes (Terry), Danielle Barth, Sandra Parus (Scott), Joseph Stugis III. (Heather); grandchildren, Jaclyn (Chris), Crystal (Richard), Tyler, Montana, Samantha, Austin, Marissa, Grace, Joseph Stugis IV “Joe Dog”; great-grandchildren, Hayden and Rowan.

Barbara Jean Adams of Wartrace passed this life on Sunday, May 5, 2019 at
her residence at the age of 62 years. Memorial Services are scheduled at
Daves-Culbertson Funeral Home on Thursday, May 9, 2019 at 3 PM with
visitation from 1 PM until the service time.
A native of Detroit, Michigan, she was the daughter of the late Norman and
Pansy LaBlanc Harris. She was a member of the Sault Ste Marie Tribe of the
Chippewa Indians. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and her
pets. She also enjoyed cooking.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sister, Paulette
Livingston; step son, Lucky Adams and step daughter, Loretta Adams.
Mrs. Adams is survived by her husband, Darrell Adams of Wartrace; sons,
Robert Brown of Wartrace and Oddie Brown (Fraya) of Wartrace; daughters,
Tammy Erazo (Carlos) of Winchester and Tonya Villegas (Juan) of Normandy;

Rodger Dale Walls, age 63, of Manchester passed away on Saturday, May 4, 2019 at St, Thomas West Hospital in Nashville. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at 7:00 PM in the chapel of Daves-Culbertson Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at Daves-Culbertson Funeral Home, Tuesday from 5:00 PM until time for the services.
A native of Manchester, he was the son of the late Oscar and Naomi Adams Walls and the husband of the late Vickie Shelton Walls. He enjoyed watching television, playing golf and swimming, grilling out and going to the lake. Mr. Walls loved his family and being with his friends.
In addition to his parents, and wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Wayne and Donnie Walls.
He is survived by a daughter, Angelica Walls; son, Cory Walls, brothers, Jerry, Howard, Leroy, Bo, Stanley and Dewayne Walls, sisters, Diane Stroop, Darlene Towry, Cathy Elemore, Darlene Cassidy, and Sharon Dikes and grandchildren, Hannah and Naomi Walls and Nicholas and Navaeha Newman.

5/11/19 — Hazel Manier Carlton
Hazel Manier Carlton, 85, of Wartrace passed away May 3, 2019 at NHC Healthcare Tullahoma. She was a kind, gentle and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. The youngest of four siblings, Hazel Baird Manier was born January 30, 1934 to Nina Ruth and David Lemuel Manier at the family farm in Eagleville, where she spent most of her childhood. She married her high school sweetheart, Charles Aubrey Carlton, on September 4, 1952. After graduating as valedictorian of her class at Eagleville High School, Hazel completed business college and worked as a secretary at Duck River Electric Co-op prior to starting a family. In the late 1950s, Hazel and Charles settled in Tullahoma, where they raised their two children. Hazel was a member of First Baptist Church of Tullahoma, where she shared her beautiful voice with the adult choir and served as a children’s Sunday School teacher and children’s choir assistant. She was also a member of Tullahoma Woman’s Club. She loved designing and sewing clothes for herself and her family. She also enjoyed clothing competitions and modeling. Fond memories of childhood 4H involvement encouraged Hazel and Charles to serve as leaders of the Tullahoma 4H club during the 1970s. During those years, Hazel shared her skills in sewing, cooking, gardening and music with many young people who still recognize her influence in their lives today. In 1978, the family moved to a farm in Wartrace, where the natural beauty inspired Hazel to further embrace her talents for gardening, flower arranging, painting and photography. Hazel is survived by her daughter, Ruth Carlton (John) Clowers of Normandy; son, Dr. Jeffrey Charles (Lynne) Carlton of Cheyenne, WY; grandchildren, Brian (Jessica) Clowers of Tullahoma; Alex Clowers of Murfreesboro; Elizabeth Carlton (Dan) Lithio of Evanston, IL; and Charlie Carlton (Kristen Bukowski) of Fort Collins, CO; and great-grandchildren, Mikale, Akira and Nikko Clowers; Nicholas Treuhaft; and Anna Lithio. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 66 years, Charles Aubrey Carlton, on February 21, 2019. Also preceding her in death were her parents, David Lemuel and Nina Ruth Manier; her sisters, Evelyn (Ike) Avaritt and Mary Alice (Bobby) Crick; and her brother, Edward (Marie) Manier. The family is eternally grateful to special caregiver, Vicki Barbeau. Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 11th, 2019 at Kilgore Funeral Home from 2:00-4:00pm with the funeral to follow at 4:00pm. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Shelbyville. 5/11/19 — Hilda Anthony Hand
Hilda Anthony Hand, better known as “Nana” to most of the community, departed this life on May 3, 2019, at Alive Hospice in Murfreesboro, Tenn. Nana was born on February 17, 1947 to Fred and Flarce Anthony in Tullahoma, Tenn. Nana graduated from Tullahoma High School in 1965 and caught the eye of a handsome army recruit, Ralph Hand. They were wed on Christmas Eve 1966. Nana devoted her life to loving and caring for others. She served at Skills Development Service and Life Care Center in Tullahoma for most of her career. She was called Nana by many, but officially received the title in 1989. As Nana, she took her grandkids to every VBS in the southeast, spent an unhealthy amount of time at the public pool, and attended every award ceremony, play, and field day her 6 grandchildren had. Nana served at Bel-Aire Elementary as a teacher’s aide for many years, helping every trouble maker be their best self. Nana was known for making her community a better place by loving and accepting everyone where they were at. She would give a meal to anyone in need and would clothe anyone who asked. She lived out a selfless love that only Jesus could bless her with.
Nana was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ralph Hand. She leaves behind a family that she was hopelessly devoted to and completely in love with; her two daughters, Lanette Roberson and Stephanie Thompson, both of Normandy, her niece Bonnie Jindrak and her husband Gary, of Manchester, her 6 grandchildren, Chris Reeves of Normandy, Joshua Thompson and his wife Jennifer of Manchester, Matt Hand and his fiancé Stephanie Trussell of Normandy, Jessica Thompson and her fiancé Justin Robinson of Estill Springs, Rhianna Roberson of Normandy, Keith Thompson of Tullahoma and countless other dear friends and family that knew her as Mama Hilda, Aunt Hilda and Nana. She has imprinted a lasting love that will echo for generations.
The family will receive guests at First Baptist Church of Manchester, 1006 Hillsboro Blvd, Manchester Tenn., at 10 A.M., Saturday, May 11th. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 11 A.M. Mr. Fletcher passed from this life on Wednesday, May 1, 2019, at St. Thomas – Rutherford in Murfreesboro, TN.
Phillip was born in Summitville, TN, to the late J.W. and Lucille Fletcher. He was a member of Pocahontas Church of Christ, and before his retirement he worked for General Electric. Phillip loved going to tractor pulls, mowing his lawn, hunting, camping, and taking daily rides with his son, Jay. Out of everything he loved in life, he loved his family the most. He was a loving husband, father, brother, and grandfather.
In addition to his parents, Phillip is also preceded in death by one brother, Rondell Fletcher; one sister, Gloria Bush. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Linda Fletcher; one son John “Jay” Fletcher; one daughter, Rita Davidson (Greg); two brothers, Edgar (Beatrice) Fletcher and John (Pat) Fletcher; one sister, Brenda Anderson (Marlin); three grandchildren, Carrie Rigney (Jason), Caleb Davidson (Courtney), Caitlyn Haley; two great-grandchildren, Parker Davidson and Maverick Rigney.

Funeral services for Mrs. Audrey “Ruth” Trail Sain, age 91, of Morrison, TN, will be conducted at 3:00 P.M. on Sunday, May 5, 2019, at Coffee County Funeral Chapel with Brother Barry Phelps officiating. Burial will follow in Shady Grove Cemetery. Mrs. Sain passed from this life on Wednesday, May 1, 2019 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN, surrounded by her loving family.
Ruth was born in Coffee County, TN, the daughter of the late Herman and Pearl Floyd Trail. She was a member of the Goosepond Methodist Church. She was a homemaker and was widely known for her coconut pies and potato salad. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, flowers, and most of all spending time with her family. She had great love for her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and the rest of her family.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her loving husband of 70 years, Ralph “Dale” Sain; three brothers, Russell Trail, Kenneth Trail, and Hershel Trail; two sisters, Edna Davis and Hazel Davis. She is survived by two sons, Charles Sain (Susan) and Mervin Sain (Linda); one daughter Carolyn Haddock (Terry); three brothers, Howard Trail, Virgil Trail, and Fred Trail; two sisters, Alta Crosslin and Mary Lee Messick; one sister in law, Leola Sain; six grandchildren, Robert Sain (Amy), Leann Haddock Cordell, Valerie Haddock, Amy Haddock Brassfield , Jamie Sain (Michaela), and Heath Sain (Megan); ten great grandchildren, Ethan Haddock, Beyoncé Brassfield, Keira Booker, Kendra Booker, Emma Cordell, Laura Cordell, Mordecai Haddock, Delaney Sain, Kendall Sain, and Addison Sain.

Jimmy Brixey
James (Jimmy) Vance Brixey passed away in his sleep on April 15th, 2019. Jimmy had not experienced any serious health issues and his passing was unexpected. Jimmy was a native of Manchester, TN, and a 1957 graduate of Manchester Central High School. He had retired from the US Military after a distinguished career. Jimmy lived in Leavenworth, Washington, at the time of his passing. Jimmy was born on January 27, 1939, and was 80 years old. Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents Layton Brixey and Hazel Hickenbottom Brixey and a special and loving brother Jerry Brixey. He is survived by his caring wife Arnette Aurdal Brixey and their three children, Patricia, Chuck and Christopher. Jimmy’s body will be cremated and the date and pace for a memorial service to celebrate and honor his life will be announced later.
