11/16/19 — Marilyn Griffith Morris

Marilyn Griffith Morris of Tullahoma passed this life on Monday, November 11, 2019 at her home, at the age of 80. Mrs. Morris was born in New Orleans, Louisiana to the late Helen Peters Griffith. Prior to starting school, she moved with her mother to east Tennessee attended schools in and around Knox County. They then moved to Tullahoma at the end of her junior year in high school and Marilyn was a member of the Tullahoma High School graduating class of 1956. In the 1970’s she was involved in working with preschoolers through the Head Start Program, where she was the first teacher of Head Start in Tullahoma. During that time, she and her husband also owned and operated Morris Fabrics, a popular fabric store on Jackson Street. Marilyn served as principal of Robert E. Lee Elementary School from 1976-1999. Prior to her work at REL, she was Tullahoma City Schools’ Curriculum Coordinator and a teacher at East Lincoln, Jones Elementary, and Fourth Model Schools. She was involved in education for more than 36 years. Retirement did not find her sitting down. In 2010, she was elected to serve on the Coffee County Board of Education. The Board of Education named the library at Robert E. Lee Elementary the “Marilyn Morris Library” in honor of her work to build a vast and varied elementary library collection for the school. She was involved in organizing the work of local scientists, engineers, and other community citizens to develop and contract the Hands-on Science Center. Marilyn was active for several years in the Tullahoma Downtown Lions Club, where she was a leader in several projects. She served as PR chair, coordinator of the Christmas parade float for several years, headed a committee to establish and award scholarships to qualified students through the Charles Douglas “Speedy” Morris Scholarship through the Tullahoma Downtown Lions Club. In 2002, the club honored her as the “Lion of the Year”, in 2005, she was honored as a “Melvin Jones Fellow”, and in 2012, the Lions honored her as the “Lion of the Decade”. Marilyn also served on the City of Tullahoma Planning Commission for five years, was a member of ASK (Agencies Serving Kids), National and Tennessee Association of Curriculum Development, National Association of Elementary School Principals, Phi Delta Kappa (an educational sorority), and was a life member of the National Educational Association. Through the American Legion Auxiliary, she was historian, assisted with publicity, Poppy Day, and the Girls’ State committee. She was a long-time member of First Christian Church in Tullahoma and was also a member of the Tullahoma Jaycettes. In addition to her mother, Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband of over 45 years, Charles Douglas “Speedy” Morris; and one brother, William Eugene Griffith III. She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Timothy Roy and Dana Duke Morris of Manchester, Stephen David and Kim Purnell Morris of Cordova, and Robert Douglas and Tina Loftis Morris of Shelbyville; grandchildren, Emily Danae’ Morris Robison (Jon), Lauren Ranae’ Morris Crouch (Jamie), Stephen David Morris, Jr., Jonathan Nathaniel Morris, Heather Lynn Morris Gentry (Chandler), and Angela Michelle Thurman; great-grandchildren, Briggs, Charley and Giles;  one brother, Samuel Robert (Jen) Griffith; and one sister, Nora Jane Griffith (Tom) Scott. Visitation will be held on Friday, November 15th, 2019 at Kilgore Funeral Home from 5:00-8:00pm. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 16th, 2019 at 1:00pm at First Christian Church in Tullahoma with Rev. Tom Murdock officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. For those who wish, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Christian Church in Tullahoma, the Marilyn Morris Library, c/o Robert E. Lee Elementary School in Tullahoma, or the Charles Douglas “Speedy” Morris Scholarship Fund, c/o Tullahoma Downtown Lions Club. Kilgore Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

11/16/19 — Lela Ailene Cole

Lela Ailene Cole of Tullahoma, passed this life on Sunday, November 11,
2019 at her residence at the age of 82.  A Celebration of Life Gathering
will be held on Saturday, November 16, 2019 from 12 – 2 PM at
Daves-Culbertson Funeral Home.

Mrs. Cole, a native of Winchester Springs, was the daughter of the late
Herman Leonard and Mildred C. Armstrong Hodge.  She enjoyed sewing,
gardening and traveling in the RV.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sister, Margaret
Perkins.

She is survived by her husband, Carl Cole of Tullahoma; son, Ricky J.
Smedley of Tullahoma; daughters, Pamela Bisbe of Breese, IL and Kimberly
Norges of Camden, MO; sister, Patricia Young of DeSoto, IL and three
grandchildren.

11/16/19 — Scott Quentin Cutshaw

Funeral services for Mr. Scott Quentin Cutshaw, age 55, of Manchester will be conducted at 12:00 PM on Saturday, November 16, 2019, at Encounter Life Church, 1006 Oakdale Street, Manchester, TN with Pastor Adam Cutshaw and Austin Cutshaw officiating. Burial will follow in the Earl Adams Cemetery in Coffee County. The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Friday, November 15, 2019, at Coffee County Funeral Chapel, and from 10:00 AM until the time of service on Saturday at the church. Mr. Cutshaw passed from this life on Wednesday, November 9, 2019, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN.

Scott was born in Bristol, TN to Buddy and Donna Cutshaw. He trusted in Jesus Christ alone as his Savior. Scott prayed a lot. He grew up attending Temple Baptist Church. He loved all the little children and teenagers. Scott attended Trinity Baptist from 2005-2016 and has been an active member in good standing at Encounter Life Church for 2½ years, where he led a weekly small group in his home and assisted others in a recovery program.

Scott played football at Westwood and Coffee County High School. He worked for 22 years at Life Communications, and then has been at Arnold Air Force Base since 2007 where he was a craft supervisor. Scott has always been a handsome, hardworking, protective, providing husband. He met his wife, Colene when he was only 16 years old, and she was 17. They got married on July 31, 1985. He loved his children and grandchildren very much. They are his “breath of life”. Scott loved to fish, hunt, and teach others to do so, but he always said, “Keep God first.”

Scott is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, A. Colene Adams Cutshaw; parents, Buddy and Donna Cutshaw; four children, Adam Cutshaw (Whitney), Andrea Cutshaw, Anjalee Cutshaw Massey (Steven), and Austin Cutshaw; one brother, Mark Cutshaw (Cheryl); two sisters, Lisa Cutshaw and Shanda Cutshaw Brown (Joel); twelve grandchildren, Eric, Brady, Hartley, Karaline, Teagen, Berott, Kalel, Eli, Zion, Alias, R.C., and Arrow.

11/14/19 — Mary Ann Jeffers

Mrs. Mary Ann Jeffers, 89, passed away Sunday
November 10, 2019 at Saint Thomas Rutherford Hospital in Murfreesboro,
Tennessee.  She was born in Knoxville, Tennessee on September 18, 1930 to
James Roscoe Bridges and Lucy Milligan Bridges Denton who preceded her in
death along with her husband, Lynn Tennyson Jeffers; daughter, Lynda Fay
Harkin; sister, Dorothy Knight; brothers, George and Carl Kelly.

She is survived by her son, Stephen E. Jeffers and his wife Deborah of
Tullahoma, TN; daughters, Carol A. Tidwell and her husband Scott of
Wartrace, TN and Debra Esterline and her husband Jan of Nashville, TN; 7
grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Graveside funeral services 1:00 PM EDT, Thursday at Greenwood Cemetery in
Fountain City, Tennessee near Knoxville.  Visitation: 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM

11/10/11 — William (“Butch”) Howard Janey

William (“Butch”) Howard Janey of Belvidere, Tennessee, died November 5,
2019.

Visitation will be held at Daves-Culbertson Funeral Home, Tullahoma,
Tennessee, Sunday, November 10, from 12 – 2 pm. Funeral  Services are
scheduled for 2 pm, conducted by Rev. Warren Swenson, Trinity Episcopal
Church, Winchester, with internment following in Willow Mount Cemetery,
Shelbyville, Tennessee.

William was born in Newport News, VA,  to Ernest Howard Janey of Sewanee,
TN, and Frances Elizabeth Knott Janey of Cowan, TN

William had a special connection to American Indian and Civil War history,
caving, and researching old mills.  He was renown as a Master Miller,
working in numerous mills over the years including Boiling Fork Mill,
Ketner’s Mill, Prater’s Mill, and Falls Mill.  He was famous for his skills
in milling, and had been the subject of many articles in various books and
magazines including the Smithsonian, National Geographic, Southern Living,
and Better Homes and Gardens.   He was also featured in Robin Smith’s book,
Tennessee Worker, and in an exhibit at the Hunter Museum in Chattanooga.  He
was an avid caver, exploring many caves of the local area.  He was a member
of the National Speleological Society and the Sewanee Grotto.  He also
appeared in many travelogues featuring caves, mills, Indian burial grounds,
meteor strikes, and bird sanctuaries.

He worked hard on his genealogy, tracing his family back to the 1400’s.  His
grandparents, the Knotts and the Janeys of Sewanee, helped to build the
University of the South. They also worked with Duck River and the TVA to
install electricity to the area. William was very proud of his pioneer
heritage.

In his youth he travelled the world with his Air Force father, living all
over the continental United States and many foreign countries.  His
favorite was the Philippine Islands, where his sister, Rebecca, was born.  His
dad, Ernest Howard Janey, served in three theaters of action in WWII-
Europe, Africa, and the South Pacific, and his mother was a wonderful
homemaker and nurse.

 William also enjoyed spending time with his friends hunting, horseback
riding, and floating the rivers.   His love, humor, hard work, adventurous
spirit, and devotion to God was mighty.  William was a 1972 graduate of
Franklin County High School.  He was a self taught artist and poet.  Many
of his painting are hanging in local area libraries and courthouses.

The family would like to thank his dear friend, Laura Lowndes, for her
precious Christian end of life care and companionship.

In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by his wife, Joy
Cunningham Janey and his son, David Jonathan Janey.

He is survived by his first wife, Suzie Wilson, their daughter, Laura
(Clay) Janey Mullins, grandchildren  Colin and Caitlain Mullins;  his three
siblings and their children:  sister Peggy Ridings,  and her daughter  Cheryl
(Brian) Ault, Elizabeth and Zachary Ault;  brother John Janey and his sons
Bruce and Matthew Janey;  sister Rebecca Janey; also Lisa (Chip) Hoover ,  Evin
& Jude  Hoover,  Amanda (Corey) Tanner, Elizabeth and Emma Roggli.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Daves-Culbertson
Funeral Home to assist with funeral and medical expenses, or to the Blue
Monarch.

11/10/19 — Alvin C. Harper

Funeral services for Mr. Alvin C. Harper, age 77 of Manchester, will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Sunday, November 10, 2019, at Coffee County Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Saturday, November 9, 2019 at the funeral home. Mr. Harper passed from this life on Wednesday, November 6, 2019, at Life Care Center in Tullahoma.

Alvin was born and raised in Manchester, TN, to the late James and Maude Harper. He was the Coffee County Road Superintendent for 16 years, and he was a show car enthusiast, a master mechanic, and an outstanding human being. Alvin loved John Deere tractors, fishing, hunting, and riding 4-wheelers, but most importantly his family was his everything. He was a loving husband, father, son, brother, and grandfather.

In addition to his parents, Alvin is also preceded in death by two sons, Eric and Kenny Harper; two sisters, Juanita Shelton and Ruth Ferrell. He is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Ann Dodson Burt Harper; two step-sons, Tony and Bruce Burt; one step-daughter, Lisa Burt Brazier; seven grandchildren, Kaleb and Kyle Brazier, Chasity Riddle, Jonathon and Dillon Burt, Felicia Pursley, and Jacob Burt; seven great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and extended family.

11/9/19 — Joe J. Johnson

Joe J. Johnson of Tullahoma, passed this life on Wednesday, November 6,
2019 at the age of 91.  Visitation with the family is scheduled for
Saturday, November 9, 2019 from 10 AM – 12 PM at Daves-Culbertson Funeral
Home.  Graveside services are scheduled at 2:30 PM on Saturday, November 9,
2019 at Tri Cities Memorial Gardens, 2601 Florence Blvd, Florence, AL
35630.

Mr. Johnson, a native of Farmington, WV, was the son of the late Michael
Paul and Veronica Fezsakas Johnson.  He was a U S Army veteran and worked
for many years as a Consulting Engineer in the Aerospace industry.  He
enjoyed traveling, reading and taking photos.  He and his family owned a
photography studio in Northridge, California for several years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Joseph
Johnson and a brother, Frank Johnson.

He is survived by his loving wife, Marcie Beavers Johnson of Tullahoma;
son, Michael Johnson (Carrie) of Oregon; daughters, Angela Johnson of
Tullahoma and Deanna Wright of Arizona; six grandchildren and several great
grandchildren.

Short, Dayne Rolman, of Tullahoma, passed this life on Tuesday, November 5th, 2019 at Tennova Healthcare in Shelbyville at the age of 20. Dayne was born in Winchester to the late Georgia Rolman Short and Wayne Short who survives and worked in General Labor at Marine Masters. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his sister, Stephanie Short; grandparents, Robert and Evelyn Rolman, James Short, and Glenis Payne; uncle, Johnny Short; and aunt, Sylvia Maxwell. Dayne is survived by his father, Wayne Short; his grandmother, Opal Payne; one brother, Chad Short; aunts, Annie Sue McKenzie (Junior), Wilma Clark, and Betty Jo Lewis; his loving niece, Sophia; and several cousins. Visitation will be held on Friday, November 8th, 2019 at Kilgore Funeral Home from 5:00-8:00pm. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 9th, 2019 at 11:00am in the Kilgore Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Smith’s Chapel Cemetery in Moore County. 11/7/19 — Robert “Bobby” Michael Roberts

Robert “Bobby” Michael Roberts of Tullahoma, passed this life on Friday,
November 1, 2019 at the age of 67.  Funeral Services are scheduled for
November 7, 2019 at 1 PM at Daves-Culbertson Funeral Home with burial to
follow at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens.  The family will receive friends
beginning at 11 AM.

Mr. Roberts, a native of Newport, TN, was the son of the late Garliss and
Betty Fine Roberts.  He was a U S Army veteran and enjoyed cars and
motorcycles.  He loved the outdoors and going to the lake or the ocean.  He
was a hairdresser and worked at Hair Fantasy for many years. He loved
watching football and he was an avid Tennessee Vols Fan.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Steve
Roberts.

He is survived by his children, Steven and Nick Roberts, both of Tullahoma
and Britta Roberts of Oakland, CA; sister, Maria Bass of Knoxville and two
grandchildren, Zoie and Jozie Roberts.

Denny Ray Finney of Tullahoma, passed this life on Sunday, November 3, 2019
at Tennova Hospital – Harton at the age of 57.  Funeral Services are
scheduled for Friday, November 8, 2019 at 2 PM at Daves-Culbertson Funeral
Home with burial to follow at Maplewood Cemetery.  Visitation with the
family will be Thursday, November 7, 2019 from 6 – 8 PM.

Mr. Finney, a native of Winchester, was the son of the late Herman and
Lahoma Blackburn Finney. He was a member of Shady Grove Nazarene Church and
enjoyed fishing and watching football.  His favorite times were spent with
his son, John.  He loved helping people.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Tonya
Finney.

He is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn Hamaker Finney of Tullahoma;
John Finney, Brandy Cooper and Amber Finney, all of Tullahoma; brother,
Herman Lee Finney; grandchildren, Dakota, Dylan and Hunter and great
grandchildren, Oliver and Axel.
