William R H Hazen, age 80 of Pelham, passed away on Tuesday, August 16 at
Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Funeral services are scheduled for
Sunday, August 21, 2016 at 2 PM at the First United Methodist Church in
Manchester with Rev. Dana M Brooks officiating. Burial will follow at
Warren Cemetery in Pelham. Visitation with the family will be Saturday,
August 20, 2016 from 5 – 8 PM at First United Methodist Church in
Manchester.
Mr. Hazen, a native of Wheeling, WV was the son of the late Harold Russell
and Irene Martin Hazen. He was a twenty year veteran serving in the U S
Marine Corps for ten years and then the U S Air Force for ten years. He
also worked for sixteen years at various civil service jobs. He retired
from AEDC as the real estate officer who maintained all aspects of the
property. During this time, he enjoyed speaking to groups about the
wildlife at the base. Mr. Hazen enjoyed woodworking, cooking, reading,
traveling and entertaining his friends. He loved to sing and play guitar.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Manchester and enjoyed
attending church activities. While living in New Mexico he enjoyed
missionary work serving as a pastor on the Apache Reservation. He was
instrumental in starting the Good Samaritan in Tullahoma and served as the
first president. He also was trained as an EMT in Nashville.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, John
Hazen and one sister, Sara Hazen.
He is survived by his wife, Sherry Hazen of Pelham; one son, William David
Hazen and his wife, Sandra of Fayetteville; two daughters, Brooke Hazen of
Manchester and Stephanie Porter and her husband, Nate of Lexington, KY; two
sisters, Gerri Hazen of Port St. Lucy, FL and Elvira McMullen and her
husband, Gary of CA; four grandchildren, Will and Hannah Hazen and Morgan
and Kindra Banks; brother-in-law, Gary Mayes of Pelham and sister-in-law,
Peggy Goodman and her husband, Jimmy of Pelham.
