8/20/14 — Alvin West

Funeral services for Mr. Alvin West, age 86, of Manchester, will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at Manchester Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Alan Adams officiating.

Burial will follow in Rose Hill Memorial Gardens.

Visitation with the West family will be from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM on Tuesday evening at the funeral home.

Mr. West passed away on Sunday, August 17 at St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital in Murfreesboro, TN.


Mr. West was born in Coffee County, TN, the son of the late Grady and Gracie Duke West.

Alvin served his country in the United States Marine Corp during the Korean War. He was employed by Duck River Electric Membership Corporation in Account Services for 33 years. He formerly worked for the Manchester Water Department. Alvin was a former Alderman for the City of Manchester, and also served on the Water Commission for many years. He was a member of Main Street Church of Christ. 

In addition to his parents, Mr. West was also preceded in death by his wife, Clara Mae West, who passed away in 2011; one brother, Marlin West; a daughter-in-law, Glenda West; one granddaughter, Jody Middlebrook; and one great grandson, Blake Rippy.

He is survived by two sons, Ricky (Betty) West and David (Angie) West, both of Manchester; two brothers, Roger (Peggy) West and Grady (Micky) West, Jr.; one brother-in-law, Clarence Phelps of Manchester; two sisters-in-law, Mary Phelps and Nancy Phelps, both of Manchester; two grandchildren, Eric (Gaby) West of Manchester and Kathy (Steven) Neal of Pulaski; and five great grandchildren, Jonathan West of Manchester, Mia Middlebrook, Taylor Neal, Mason Neal and Claire Neal, all of Pulaski. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to VIP (Visually Impaired Persons) or the Know Your Bible Program at Main Street Church of Christ.
