Mr. Hubert Antoine Hendon, age 81 of Winchester, Tennessee passed away, Friday, May 29, 2015 at St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital in Murfreesboro.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, June 5 at 9:30 AM at the New Hope Church of God in Christ in Cowan with Superintendent Willie L. Bonner Jr. officiating.

Burial will follow at the Chattanooga National Cemetery.

Visitation with the family will be Friday, June 5 from 9 AM until service time..

Hubert was born in Estill Springs to the late George and Owene Moss Hendon. After their death, he went to live with his grandmother and later was adopted by Daisy McGhee. In 1985 he met and married his soul mate, Nona Mae Hendon.

He was a very active, faithful member of the New Hope Church of God in Christ in Cowan serving as President of the Sunday night YPWW service. He also proudly served on the Usher Board. These appointments were reflective of his free-hearted, giving nature -especially when it came to his family.
During his career, Hubert was known for his culinary skills. He was the best Chef in the world! No one can match him in making a cobbler! His many pastimes include spending time with family, reading his bible, cooking, grilling fishing, hunting, football ~ the Colts, and gardening. Some of his favorite music included “Killing Me Softly” by Roberta Flack and almost any music by gospel singer Rance Allen.

In April of 1951 Hubert joined the United States Military where he served his country proudly. While serving, he received several medals and honors that included two purple hearts.

He was preceded in death by thirteen siblings: Sisters: Christine, Pearline, Georgia, Beatrice, Maude; and Brothers: Edward, Son, James, William, Robert, Clauis, Vernon. He was also preceded in death by one son: Antwain Hendon.

He leaves to mourn his home going, a very devoted wife, Nona Mae Hendon of Winchester; two daughters: Vicki Hendon Washington (Kenny) of Indianapolis, Shaquanta Massengill (Garry) of Murfreesboro; three sons: Ricky Hendon of Chicago, Andre Hendon of Indianapolis, and Marriano Hendon of Winchester; Four sister in laws: Patricia Jelks (Roger) of Winchester, Vanessa Richardson (Roderick) of Smyrna, and Shannon Burks of Murfreesboro, One brother in law: Millard Burks of Murfreesboro; twelve grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
