6/23/12 — Conley “Al” Newton

 
Conley “Al” Newton, 62, died June 20, 2012 at his home after a battle with cancer.

He was born in Fredericksburg, Virginia in 1950. He graduated from Augusta Military Academy, attended Charles County Community College in Maryland and Germana Community College in Virginia. He was owner and operator of Newton’s Painting in Tullahoma for over 23 years.

He was preceded in death by his father, Hilbert A. Newton in 2011 and grandson, Kevin Wade, in 1990.

Conley is survived by his mother, Iris H. Newton, Fredericksburg, Virginia, his daughter, Shelley Bryan, husband Richard, two grandchildren, Matthew Newton and Luke Bryan of Williston, Florida. He is also survived by daughter, Laurie Swick, her husband, Jacob Benjamin Swick II, two grandchildren, Isabel and John Newton of Tullahoma. Conley has one son Joseph Conley Newton, also of Tullahoma. Conley’s brother, Tyler P. Newton, Sr. and his sister, Vena N. Sale live in Fredericksburg, Virginia.

Al was successful in his recovery of sobriety for 27 years. He was instrumental in starting the Serenity House in Tullahoma. He was such a positive influence on so many in the recovery. He was a member Coffee Airfoilers Model R/C Club. He enjoyed building 1/3 scale World War II model air planes. He has a plane on display in Hands-On Science Center in Tullahoma and several planes in Guntersville Museum in Alabama. He was a WONDERFUL son, father, grandfather and brother. He has a lot of friends and is respected by many. He will be missed dearly.

A memorial will be held at Kilgore Funeral Home Saturday, June 23, 2012 from 2:00-4:00pm.
