JD BRAWLEY, age 95 of Hillsboro, Tennessee, passed away on May 31, 2015.
He was a beloved husband, loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, Marine Corps World War II veteran, and faithful member of the First United Methodist Church in Hillsboro. JD’s joy came from the love he had for his God, his country, and his family. He will be fondly remembered as a good Christian man who taught Sunday School to a generation of adults at the First United Methodist Church in Hillsboro, and he was a founding member of the Men’s Group at the Church.
JD enlisted in the Marine Corps in June 1941, and he served with the Marine Detachment aboard the Battleship Arkansas (BB 33) in World War II from December 1941 through May 1945 where he helped support the invasion of Normandy France beginning on D-Day (June 6, 1944), the invasion of Southern France, and the invasions of Iwo Jima and Okinawa.
Following the war, he attended Middle Tennessee State College while raising a young family with his wife. He had a long work career in industrial security at Arnold Air Force Base eventually becoming the Chief of the civilian security force. He was a member of the American Legion for 65 years.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, the late Vera Jean Brawley, his parents, the late Henry Robert Brawley and Mary Alma Davis Brawley, and his siblings, the late Fred A. Brawley and Lorene Brawley Tribble.
He is survived by his children, Patra B. Temple (Charles) of Collierville, TN, Robert L. Brawley, MD (Martha) of Columbus, OH, Terry W. Brawley of Hillsboro, TN, Deborah B. Lovely of Cordova, TN, Melinda B. Khazeh (Kashi) of Salisbury, MD and Greg M. Brawley (Darci) of Newport Beach, CA; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
