Glenn Shepherd Sweeney, age 91 of Donelson, passed away in his sleep Tuesday at the home of his niece, Judy Partlow of Mt. Juliet. His wife of 61 years, Carrie Belle, was by his side.
He was a member and elder of Donelson Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Mr. Sweeney served in the US Navy in WWII. A draftsman by trade, he was also an artist, model ship and airplane builder and world traveler.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest McCampbell Sweeney and Evangeline Simmons Sweeney and a sister, Thelma Earlene O’Brien.
In addition to his wife, Carrie Belle Jennings Sweeney of Donelson, he is survived by his brother, Ernest McCampbell Sweeney, Jr. of Manchester, MI; several nieces and nephews; devoted friends, Tony and Ann Holshouser; and special friends, T. J. and Joyce Wise.
Visitation is 5-8 PM Thursday at Hibbett & Hailey Funeral Home where funeral services will be conducted 10 AM Friday.
Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park. Kenneth Frye, Dean Jennings, Gene Jennings, Ramil Bailey, Jim Cortner, Bob Cortner, Pat O’Brien and Jerry Partlow will be serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Jernigan, Doug Horton, T. J. Wise, and elders and deacons of the Donelson Cumberland Presbyterian Church and Sam Lankford Sunday School Class.
The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Brian Haitas and Dr. William Bounds and their staff and also the staff of Alive Hospice.
