Memorial services for Mr. Edgar Dean “Ed” Lautzenheiser, age 81 of Manchester will be conducted Friday, May 4, 2012 at 10:30 AM at St. Mark’s Catholic Church with Father Stephen Klasek officiating.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM Friday until time of services as well as at a reception following services.
Mr. Lautzenheiser passed away Monday, April 30, 2012 at his residence surrounded by his loving family and his beloved yorkies, Sassy and Duke.
He was born February 3, 1931 in Adams County, Indiana the son of the late Clinton Lautzenheiser and Effie Cooke Lautzenheiser. Ed joined the United States Air Force in August 1949 at Lackland AFB in San Antonio Texas and began his career in the field of Military Intelligence and Security. On July 19, 1955 he married the love of his life, Betty Simon and they began their family. In 1960, he received the AFSCC Evans NCO Mission Award and in 1968 he was awarded his second Oak Leaf Cluster. After twenty years of dedicated military service, having served in England, Pakistan, and Turkey he retired as a Sr. Master Sergeant on August 31, 1969. The family moved to Dayton, Ohio and Ed became a Financial Analyst for NCR Corporation and retired in March 1993. In later years, he and Betty moved to Santa Rosa Beach, FL where Ed was active in many organizations including the San Destin’s Lions Club where in 2001-2002 he was awarded the Melvin Jones Award. He served as Fire Commissioner from 2003-2005 in Santa Rosa Beach, Ft. Walton County. Throughout his life, Ed continued to serve his fellow man by volunteering in many organizations. He was active in the Knights of Columbus in Dayton, Ohio as well as the Air Force Sergeants Association and the Disabled American Veterans’ organization. In 2005, Ed and Betty moved to Manchester Tennessee. Ed’s hobbies include bowling and gardening. He loved to play cards and games with family and friends. He was a member of St. Mark’s Catholic Church.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by three brothers, George, Jack and Ken Lautzenheiser.
Survivors include his loving wife of 56 years, Betty Simon Lautzenheiser of Manchester; three children, Susan Sirbaugh and husband, Jim of Tullahoma, TN; Sandra Schlegel and husband, Dan of Dayton, OH and Edgar Dean Lautzenheiser, Jr and wife, Danielle of Columbus, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Danny Schlegel of Snyder, TX; Andrew Schlegel and wife, Nikki of Dayton, OH; Brandon Sirbaugh and wife, Scarlett of Huntsville, AL; Russell Sirbaugh of Tullahoma, TN; Anthony Lautzenheiser, Benjamin Lautzenheiser, Caitlyn Lautzenheiser, Nicole Bongornio and Kassi Grassi all of Columbus, OH; two great-grandchildren, Wyatt Dean Schlegel and Willow Grace Schlegel both of Dayton, OH; and three brothers, Ray Lautzenheiser and wife, Becky and Phil Lautzenheiser and wife, Judy all of Van Wert, OH and Doc Lautzenheiser and wife, Rose of Lima, OH and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and loving friends.
