5/18/12 — George G. Fisher

Memorial services for Mr. George G. Fisher, age 80 a resident of Manchester will be conducted Friday, May 18, 2012at11:00 AM at Coffee County Funeral Chapel.

The family will receive friends Friday morning from10:00 AM until time of services.

Mr. Fisher passed away Monday, May 14, 2012 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

He was born July 20, 1931 in Albany,NYt he son of the late George Gregory Fisher and Grace Padula Fisher.

He grew up in Albany and started his freshman year of college and was about to be drafted to the US Army and instead he voluntarily chose to join the US Navy, where he would spend the next four years serving his country during the Korean Conflict.  Following his service time, George attended the University of Maine where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering.

He married Catherine Hanlon September 17,1960 and they moved to Manchester in 1964.  He was employed as an engineer with Sverdrup Tech until his retirement in 1993.

George was known to be an avid golfer who accomplished three holes in one on golf courses throughout the years.  In recent years, he enjoyed traveling with his wife to numerous destinations including two trips toIreland.  He will be missed by his loving wife, children and grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Catherine Fisher of Manchester; seven children, Cheryl Lowrance and husband, Craig of Centreville, VA; Jennifer Burks and husband, Mike of Murfreesboro; Peter Fisher of Murfreesboro; Gregory Fisher and wife, Jenny of King George, VA; Matthew Fisher of Murfreesboro; Maggie McJilton and husband, Stephen of Cypress, CA; and Edward Fisher of Mufreesboro; eleven grandchildren, Chase Lane and wife, Rachel; Allison Lowrance; Kyle Fisher; Zachary Smith; Jason Lowrance; Emily Lowrance; Ainsley Fisher; Cordero Fisher; Trent Fisher; and twins, Meagan and Morgan McJilton.   Also surviving is a sister, Mary Walsh and husband, Martin of Wellsville,PA and several nieces, nephews, cousins and loving friends.
