Michael Saveree Thompson Sr., of Normandy, passed this life on Sunday, May 6th 2012 at his residence at the age of 45.
Born in Richmond, Kentucky, Mr. Thompson was the owner of Mike Thompson Ford located in Tullahoma. He was a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church, a member of the Tullahoma Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, Executive Board, and CEO partner, and a member of the United Way.
He has coached Tullahoma Little League Baseball since 1998 coaching the following Little League Teams, the Orioles, White Sox, and the Little League City Champs the A’s in 2005, 2006, and 2007. He also coached the 2006 and 2007 Tullahoma American District Champs. Mike coached the following Little League Minor teams, the Reds and the Mariners. He was the coach for the Padres in Coach pitch league, and the Lion’s Club in Babe Ruth. His proudest moment as a coach came when his 11&12 year olds, Tullahoma American State Champs, made it to the Regional Finals in St. Petersburg, FL in 2007. The 9 & 10 year old team he coached in 2011 was the Tullahoma American District Champs. Mike coached various travel teams, football teams, soccer teams and has donated money to about every sports organization in the area.
Mr. Thompson is preceded in death by his grandfather, Purcell Saveree Moyer.
He is survived by his grandmother, Bernice McClammer of Charlottesville, VA; his father, George Michael Thompson of New Smyrna Beach, FL; and his mother, Brenda Mehring (Tony) also of New Smyrna Beach, FL; his wife, Lori Thompson of Normandy; seven children, Kayla Torres and husband Isaac of Orlando, FL, Jared Thompson of Memphis, TN, Joshua, Nicholas, Olivia, Michael Jr., and Nathan Thompson all of Normandy; one sister, Liz Baker and husband Chris of Manchester; one grandson, Aiden Torres; niece and nephews, Dalton, Dakota Baker, and Faith Baker and Jacob Friedman.
Visitation for Mr. Thompson will be held on Friday, May 11th, 2012 at Kilgore Funeral Home from 4:00pm-9:00pm with the funeral Saturday, May 12th, 2012 at 2:00pm in The Kilgore Funeral Home Chapel with Father Stephen A. Klasek officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the “Mike Thompson Little League Scholarship Fund” at Southern Community Bank.
