Clarence Alvin Jernigan, age 81 of Decherd, passed away Saturday, April 21, 2012 at his residence surrounded by his family.
A loving father and grandfather, he worked for L&N Railroad for 29 years and was of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Joseph Jernigan and Eva Mae Lewis Jernigan; first wife, Tina “Tiny” Faye Bryant Jernigan; brothers, Kelly Jernigan, Jim Jernigan, Alex Jernigan, L. Y. “Mood” Jernigan and Floyd Jernigan; and sisters, Bertha Lillian Jernigan, Earlene Cook and Geneva Jernigan.
He is survived by his wife, Mattie Jane Jernigan of Decherd; children, Doris (Larry) Baker of Decherd, Carolyn (Norman) Payne of South Pittsburg, Zella Ruth (Jerry) Sons and Eddie (Lynn) Jernigan of Winchester; 10 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.
Visitation is 5-8 PM Monday at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be 11 AM Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at Moore-Cortner Chapel with interment at Mt. Garner Cemetery.
Cody Jernigan, Clancy Baker, Kevin Payne, Tim Sons, Mark Sons and Jerry Sons will be serving as pallbearers and honorary pallbearer, Jim Jernigan.
Moore-Cortner Funeral Home of Winchester in charge of arrangements.
