Mr. William B. Bateman, age 91 of Lynchburg, passed this life on Sunday, February 15 at Harton Regional Medical Center.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, February 18, 2015 at 2 PM at Lynchburg Funeral Home with Bro. Chris Harris officiating.

Burial will follow at Smith’s Chapel Cemetery.

Visitation with the family will be Wednesday from 11 AM until the service time.

A native of Lincoln County, he was the son of the late Ollie and Florence Martin Bateman.

He was a US Army veteran serving in WWII. He was a machinist and retired in 1990 from Cleveland Pneumatic. He attended Smith’s Chapel Methodist Church. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, whittling and playing with his grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Connie Irene Bateman; two sisters, Virginia Parks and Shirley Gowen and one grandchild, Brooke Bateman.

Mr. Bateman is survived by his wife, Edith Bateman of Lynchburg; two sons, Billy Wayne Bateman and his wife, Sherry of Chapel Hill and Stoney Bateman and his wife, Sheila of Lynchburg; one brother, Jack Bateman of Lynchburg; four sisters, Ruth Smith, Helen Metcalf and Nancy McGee and her husband, Richard, all of Lynchburg and Faye Trail and her husband, Elvin of Manchester; six grandchildren, Chris Bateman and his wife, Angie of Shelbyville, Greg Bateman and his wife, Sharon of Lynchburg, Fallon McLanore and her husband, Nick of Indiana, Brandon Bateman and his wife, Brandy of Lynchburg, Chelsee Damron and her husband, Cory of Lynchburg and Jeremy Wayne Bateman; seven great grandchildren, Colton, Tyler, Sierra and Dakota Bateman, Braden and Jaxon McLanore and Raylee Bateman and one on the way.
