Both vehicles received heavy damage in the head-on collision.
Two people were injured in a head-on collision Wednesday morning after a driver swerved to miss a downed tree lying in the roadway.
It happened just before 8 a.m. on 16th Model Road in Coffee County just outside Manchester.
Authorities said 31 year-old Nathan Everhart of Wartrace swerved as he topped the crest of a hill in an effort to avoid striking the tree.
As he swerved to miss the tree, Everhart’s 2006 Ford Fusion struck a 1998 Chevrolet Suburban driven by 41 year-old Anita Patterson of Manchester.

Manchester Fire Chief George E. DeShields said firefighters used extrication equipment to remove trapped drivers.
Both Patterson and Everhart were transported to the Tullahoma Airport and then airlifted to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville for treatment of their injuries.
A three-year-old child traveling with Patterson was also transported to Harton Hospital in Tullahoma as a precaution.
Others working the scene were members of the Coffee County Sheriff’s Department, Coffee County EMS and the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
