Red Raider football began the 2014 campaign Friday night in Franklin, TN with a match-up against Battle Ground Academy. Coffee County fell behind big at halftime, 35-7 but did not quit. The only score came on a Cody Howes 93-yard kickoff return. The Raiders came out in the 2nd half fired up and score two touchdowns in about 8 minutes. The first was on a pass from backup QB Alontae Taylor to Cody Howes from 32 yards out. Coffee County scored again after BGA fumbled on the 2 yard line. On the second play after the turnover Mill Harner took into the end zone to cut the score to 35-21. The Wildcats upped their lead in the 3rd with a TD to make it 42-21. BGA would add a touchdown pass and field goal to gain a 4th quarter advantage of 52-21. With only 6 seconds left in the game Cody Howes, who had 152 total yards in the game ran in his third touchdown on the night to make the final 52-28.
Freshman Alontae Taylor led the Raiders in rushing with 13 carries for 77 yards and he also had the most yards passing going 2 for 3, 32 yards and a touchdown.
Howes earned the Gateway Tire and Service Center player of the week honor.
