Motlow College recently received approval from the Tennessee Board of Regents to offer a new associate of applied science degree in Paramedic and an Emergency Medical Paramedic certificate of credit, according to Drew Hooker, emergency medical services program coordinator at the college. The new degree and certificate will be offered at the Fayetteville Center. The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) technical certificate programs will be offered at both the Fayetteville and McMinnville centers. While Motlow already offers EMT and AEMT training, the new program will add a third and fourth aspect to EMS training at Motlow. Coursework for the new paramedic degree will feature hands-on training with modern equipment that will ready students to enter the workforce upon graduation. While obtaining the paramedic degree and certificate, students will receive training in three different emergency medical services. The degree will require a total of 60 credit hours to complete, including 17 credit hours in general education courses and 43 credit hours in paramedic courses. The certificate requires 43 credit hours of paramedic courses. Upon the completion of each course, students may take the National Registry Exam to obtain national certification as an EMT, AEMT, and Paramedic respectively. In order to begin the program in the fall, all interested students must submit an application by Aug. 1. Students already enrolled in the EMT training and wishing to continue the next semester for the AEMT training must submit an application between Oct. 1 and Dec. 1.
