Coffee County Lady Raiders celebrate their District 8AAA Volleyball Championship following Thursday’s 5 set win over Lincoln County

Seeking their first district title in volleyball since 2007, the CHS volleyball team looked to their seniors to lead them to victory…and the seniors came through in a big way on Thursday night.  The Lady Raiders swept Lawrence County in 3 sets in the semifinals before outlasting a tenacious Lincoln County team in the finals in an action packed 5 set thriller.  Senior Cameron Davis   was named the Gateway Tire and Service Center player of the game for Coffee County as her 11 service aces, including 7 in a row in the 3rd set of the semifinals, propelled the Lady Raiders to a 25-16, 25-18 & 25-16 win over Lawrence County.  Senior Sydney Pearson added 4 aces while senior Tyger Fenton served 3 aces.  Pearson and Fenton led in kills with 7 and 6 respectively while senior Valaina Barger added 3 blocks.  Senior Brittany Williams added 14 assists as Coffee County advanced to the finals.

In the district finals, Coffee County faced off against Lincoln County, a team that the Lady Raiders had spilt with in the regular season.  After taking the first 2 sets, 25 – 21 and 25 – 16, the Lady Raiders saw the Lady Falcons rally from behind in sets 3 and 4 to tie the match setting up a dramatic 5th set.  Coffee County raced out to a 10 to 4 lead before Lincoln County charged back to tie the game.  The Lady Raiders made the key shots in the 5th set to claim a 15 to 13 win.  Coffee County owned the play at the net as senior Valaina Barger had 11 kills and a block, senior Cursten Vaughn had 9 kills and 2 blocks and senior Cameron Davis added 6 kills and one and a half blocks.   Senior Sara Brown scraped 28 digs off the floor as Tyger Fenton added 12 digs.  Brittany Williams had 24 assists for Coffee County.
